I'm interested in building a full-fairing track GS.  And with a recent visit to the member's gallery, I learned that we have several options when it comes to fairing kits that seem to fit the GS - but almost all of the photos lacked a final answer to the question "hey dude, where'd you get that fairing?!"

If you know any more details about the fairings in the photos below - please say so!  Include # reference of posted image.

I'd love to know what options there are besides the air-tech kit.  Tanx Much!

PS - is it worth it to put a fairing on a track bike that you're probably going to thrash anyway?!  Are frame-sliders legal on the track?!

Can't help with the pics, but yes, frame sliders are legal on track... where do you think they came from!  :icon_razz: And speaking of "on track", are you actually going to race it competitively? If no, I'd say it's definitely not "worth it" to spend a few hundred bucks and lots of time putting a bunch of plastic on there that will just get destroyed when it goes down. That $$ and time could be another track weekend.

Yes I plan to get my racing license and start competing at amateur level.  Any tips?  I am lucky enough to have a relaxed work schedule and decent living arrangements that would allow me to work on my bike and trailer it around the east coast to tracks.  Is this ridiculous to attempt without a team/sponsor?!

Id avoid 3 and 8 or at least, the GS-R graphics as it looks phoney and frankly, a bit silly IMHO.

Have a GS500 or a GS500F logo by all means and do with that, as you please but dont add extra "R"'s on fairings implying a GS is somehow related to a GSXR or a GSR which looks plain daft  :thumb:

The fairings themselves look not bad though...just not, the GS-R logo.
GS500F...

How would one go about doing a mod like #8? Any idea of the costs?

If you want to race the GS, I woudln't even bother with a fairing as it really only helps down a long straight. And the money and time spent to get a fairing on the GS could be better spent at a few more trackdays in the year and make up the time in the corners.

I have passed a few GS with fairings on a straight with a better drive out of a corner than with the help that fairing gives you.

I dont want to race one. I just think stock rear looks ugly and squished down. Im gonna be eliminating the rear fender to open it up a bit and putting on flush mounts on rear and front signals.
Can the lower fairings be changed btw? To say one from an R1 or something?

If I can make this bike so sporty I would keep it b/c the power is good enough...I think sportsbikes (R1's are ridiculous and wayy too dangerous)...yet I stil want to be a 600 later lol

Do a few track schools with Sportbiketracktime, NESBA and/or Cornerspeed, visit the WERA forum and start talking to those guys. If you haven't done any schools yet I wouldn't worry about upgrading the bike, just get out there. Then it'll become clear to you if you want to prep this bike for racing or buy another. And no, it's not a ridiculous attempt, many in WERA and other amateur races are one man shows as well. You can do it too if you have the $$ and time. Talent is a distant 3rd.  :thumb:

I name the fairings Phil, Ted, Tim, Tina, Becky, Carlos, Bill, Tandy, and Pat, respectively.

Have you done track days?  You'll want to get track time under your belt before making the decision to jump to racing.

Do you know what series you'll be competing in?  Your best bet is always to find a bike that someone has been competing in a local series.  The track prep and race prep can be expensive and time-consuming, and it's great to take advantage of someone who has already done it.

Our local body - AFM - has a good class for GS500s, and I bought an ex-racebike that already had most of the work done to it.  I'll be racing it next year.

You don't get a team/sponsor until you've already raced on your own dime and done well enough to attract one.  ;)

That's too bad. I love love love that tail piece, but I'm sure I could find much better things to spend $700 on, haha.

#1 looks a lot like an MV Agusta fairing, but it's hard to tell. That bike barely even looks like a gs500. 2 definitely looks like an older gsxr, 4 looks like a modified ducati 999, but it's hard to tell from that angle.

The only one I'm sure about is #7, which is a Triumph 955i, but I feel like it's actually a triumph, and not a gs500 with a 955 fairing. If it is a gs they did a ton of work to swap over the forks, headlight and mirrors. The front tire does look a little skinny for a 955, but there's no where on a GS to mount frame sliders where those are, plus the fairing still says 'Triumph' on the side.
