What do you do with torn gear? Jack is ripped a tiny bit? Worth replacing?

Being broke I'm really struggling to justify spending ~$200-$250 for a new jacket over a tiny rip above the shoulder.

1) Do I need to replace the jacket?

2) If I do, they don't make my model anymore (Cortech GX Air $170). Please recommend other MESH jackets (non-negotiable).
Here is the newer version of the GX Air. It now has leather which is good. Read the bottom comment. UGH!

that comment is from the -owner- of newenough. they're GREAT folks, honest, they actually RIDE, and they do stand behind their sales. if you have reservations about that jacket, save the trouble and buy another one.

remember, a $200 jacket is better than $20,000 in skin grafts. get a new one, and pimp the old one on your cold nights in the cage.

2 cents :)

I agree...get a new one and pimp the old one. I was planning the exact same thing. My old one is a really nice Joe Rocket UFO Textile Jacket in red. It is not totally destroyed and is worth wearing but I would not use it on a ride. It still holds the protection padding but I think it would be better to retire it from the road. I pulled all the protection from inside the jacket and put the liner in it. It works great for the cooler nights and people ask if I had an accident and I tell them about it and how the jacket protected me. It shows you should always ride with gear on.

This is why you need leather people! Lots of nice war marks but all they are are scuffs. Even at 60odd mph down the road.

I have leather...I was wearing mesh as it was dam hot. I do have to agree with you. Bang up marks on leather looks great.

I recently bought a joe rocket phoenix 5.0 jacket and I really like it. You should be able to find one between $140 and $160.

Are you wanting another mesh jacket? If so what size do you wear? I've got a XXL Cortech HRX mesh jacket that I bought from newenough. It has leather covering the elbow, shoulder areas along with CE armor, plus a rainproof liner and a insulating liner. I haven't been wearing it since I bought a FieldSheer Highland II one-piece suit some time ago. It's just a little big on me, I should have bought the XL as I normally would have.

why couldn't you just take it and sew it up nice and strong? It'll prob be better than it was.

In their FAQ, Cortech suggests this as well:

Q: Do you offer a repair service or patch kit for your garments/luggage pieces?

A: Beyond certain warranty situations, there are no repair services or patch kits available for Tour Master/Cortech garments or luggage pieces. Once an item has been damaged, the original benefits and features cannot be restored cost effectively with repairs. If your garment is in need of repair you may wish to visit a local tailor, seamstress, or saddlery shop to see if they might be able to better assist you in your needs.
