I'd like to see some results ... or atleast some of the right thinking ... I'd rather see some pain with a good idea behind it ... instead of pain avoidance and more fluff ...

Not a land-slide by any means.  Look up the Presidential Races of 1980 and 1984.  Then you'll see what a land-slide is.

PuddleJumper

yep, Obama won by 5 points. Solid but not a landslide.

I don't agree with his Ideology, but I do wish him the best.

Otherwise, we all lose.

A land slide is considered to be 10% or greater, I asked the Polysci expert at work . - JIm :)

No comment on what your electorate did, I am not entitled to an opinion on that but i have to say that the reaction of Fox news is hilarious, give them a day or two and they will launch the next campaign!

Good luck to the guy, as a foreigner we tend to judge US presidents by foreign policy and it does not change a great deal with change of presidents (usually)

Some of the less mature democracys like Eastern Europe and other places like the Middle East and Africa seem to have had a huge rise in expectation which is probably not going to be met which could get interesting, also Russia is flexing it's muscle again with announcements on your election day about not standing down three missile regiments that were planned and increasing short range weopons on it's Western borders as a direct threat to countries like Poland, Czech republic and the Baltic states in particular. Russia's relationship with Ukrain is deteriorating and the Ukrain is a nuclear power which will probably keep them safe from invasion but not from ethnic insurgency. All of this increasing tension with the west's new freinds is going to present a headache to a new administration that would probably much rather concentrate on domestic matters.

Landslide or not, the new administration will need some luck, perhaps someone will capture Osama, perhaps not.

1) the way people classify themselves into left/right dem/repub splits the country frankie. united we stand, divided we fall (or is it FAIL now?). our own political process of choosing a vs b group to vote on divides us, and fails us. calling yourself a dem or repub and immediately siding with like-grouped people is a real shame. those people, you / whoever elected are just offices that are being renovated. you'll never shake their hand (for more than 1.2 nano seconds), never bend their ear, and never directly contact them in any way.

2) you didn't win. at each election, you loose. THEY WIN. why do i say this ? a few reasons:

you get -nothing- different for between 3 1/2 to 10 years as thats how long change takes,  if the fat schmucks ever do anything anyway.

they get:
lifetime healthcare, lifetime pension, lifetime security details, lifetime travel, lifetime expense accounts, and worst of all, a LIFETIME of living, breathing people that will bow down to them, more aside for them, and offer up the best of a region to be raped, plundered, wasted, and tossed away.

they win frankie, we all just get to foot the bill. ;)

side note - isn't this the first president in 40 years or so with no military experience ? so, he's comanding troops, without ever worn boots  ? wow.

:)

i am not sure if it is because i am a politician myself or what but i think i am more optimistic in elections and what different politicians can do for us.   i call it a win for me because i supported obama, volunteered for a short time at cambridge and i voted for him.  i actually got a spot on his web site as a supporter.  I'll have to find the link.   so our new president won more than twice as many electoral college votes as mccain

Bush had some Air National Guard service on paper (but has been unable to produce eyewitnesses who ever actually saw him report for duty for the last couple of years).

Clinton had no military experience (same as duck Cheney).

GHW Bush was a Naval aviator.

Reagan was in the Army.

Carter was in the Navy.

Ford was in the Navy.

So the last couple of presidents had little or no military experience.  You can draw your own conclusions about whether it mattered.

I'm just glad we have someone other than a Clinton or Bush in office.  It has been since 1980 that we have not had one or the other in the Presidency or Vice-Presidency.  That's long enough for two families to have that much say in running the country, I think.

Just to put things in perspective.  Electoral votes don't correlate to how many votes the candidates actually received in the general election.  A candidate can still be president even if more people voted of the other guy.  This happened three times in presidential races.  So even if a candidate gets 100% of the electoral votes doesn't necessarily mean a landslide in the general election.

That's because citizens don't vote for President, States do.  Each of us votes for how we want our state to vote, then all the states vote.

Like Porkchop said, it's happened a few times that the popular vote of the nation has been different than the electoral vote of the nation.  But, very rarely does the popular vote of a state differ from the electoral vote of a state.

jserio

this is the reason the electorial college needs trashed, out the window. go strictly with popular vote. THEN your individual vote will mean more.  :thumb:

There has been some talk about introducing legislation to get rid of the electoral college.  I think that would be a good thing.  Then again some think a contest of skill, strength, and knowledge would be more expedient and more entertaining.  It sure would cost less.

i could feel that. chess-boxing for the presidency perhaps?        (and yes, it is a sport, google it.)  :icon_mrgreen:
