So, I have k&n lunch box, yosh muffler, 20-65-142.5 jets, 3 turns, 2 washers each needle and it is still lean only noticeable in cold weather.  I dont notice it in the afternoons at all.  It has light surging at 7k rpms on up if I try to maintain speed.  It accelerates fine and only pops slightly on hard decel.

So, my questions, should I look to replace main jet? Mid main jet?  does k&n make a restrictor for the lunch box? just put some tape on the filter, put the airbox and crappy filter back on?  dont worry about it? The gs if my primary mode of transportation during the week to work and primary source of fun on the weekends, and I have a 1200 mile trip coming up this month...

You need to be running 147.5 mains - now you put what I sent you right ...
Then yea you have 147.5 ... I never buy 142.5.
Popping on shut throttle is also not lean. Its a characterstic ... however sometimes turning up air screw a shade can fix it ...
Leanness can only be determined by a plug pull, or characterstic misfire or surging on steady throttle. Also the side diaphragm on the carbs of the 04+ make the problem worse IMHO.

Yeah my bad I meant 147.5's.  So I have surging on steady throttle 75mph on up in cold weather only.  I already have 3 turns out on the mix screws, I am concerned that they will just fall out if I turn them out much more.  You think half a turn would be safe?  Would it even be effective?  What about the k&n prechargers?  would that help at all? maybe just put some kind of tape on the filter for the winter?  Help please!

Surging on steady throttle at 75 - OK, not air screw (that was for backfiring ... and only as a possiblity not a definete), maybe lift the needle more. I sent you thin washers ... maybe I should ahve sent you thicker ones or just more of em ...
Sorry, but you can buy nylon ones at lowes ... take those and match them ... I can send you, but you can get it at lowes a lot faster ...
