Key the Benny Hill music:

In case you can't tell, the race is upside down.

So, attention first-timers - - don't follow the parts diagram for the install.  I waited two weeks and forgot the order, and depended on the bikebandit.com exploded view.  Now, another chunk of cash and another week for the dealership to order a new one.

For those who don't know:  The beveled edge on the upper bearing race is supposed to face up towards you.  I.E. small edge up, wide edge down.

What a great day this has been.

Anyone willing to donate a new bearing race to me?

just tap the race out again ? if you use a SOFT drift and work your way around 360 degrees, it won't be damaged.  :)

Nope.  No way to get a drift on it.  Thanks though.

3 hours and a dremel.

really ? wow. i haven't had my FE off of the gs, so I could only assume the bottom bearing and race were easily removed, then the top bearing race tapped out.

easily, being, with a heavy hammer and a nice brass drift mind you ;)

3 hours and a dremel means at least you took your time and didn't damage the frame. good show man :)
