Good grief what a beastie.   This buck is about 30 minutes down the road from me.   I didn't even know they GOT this size in NC.

Attack but have a back up plan

bikejunkie223

That's what they look like here in Oregon- all the ones I ever saw in NC looked like that bucks kid.

I've seen plenty of big bucks in NC as well as large black bears.
Bikeless in RVA

That is big for "down south"  :icon_mrgreen: When I moved to SC for college from here in PA. I laughed when people would show me the "deer" they killed or got down there, they are soooooo much smaller than the deer here in PA

I dont hunt but I like to see the pics that you ahave been posting.

I had the same experience- I would always ask why they shoot the babies- I didn't really know they came as small as all the ones I saw in NC

There are many subspecies of the whitetail deer.   Oregon has the Northwest whitetail which is a larger subspecies with generally wider antlers: http://www.kerrlake.com/deer/white.htm

Here's a pic off my laptop cam at work. There aren't many species like this in the area and I don't have any antlers.

up in Canada there are herds of deer with buck much larger than that one.  some of them are just amazingly lard and have huge racks.  i don't hunt anymore but i like to watch the deer.

I'm a fan of huge racks myself...damn we agree on something else!

theUBS

That rack's got some trophy height to it, and that's for sure.  There might be bigger ones out there, but that'll get points for the height and pretty good symmetry too!  It'd be interesting to see what that thing would weigh.  He actually looks like he might have some filling out to do, but then again, I'm no expert.

If I get some time to transfer from phone to PC, I'll show you the elk rack I saw on top of somebody's SUV going across I-70.  It's a pretty lousy picture, but there's no mistaking the size of what you're looking at!

I don't have a rack. Ok, well, maybe a small one.
