ya im going to rent an engine lift and pull it up and in.

still not sure what im going to do about valves. i might just do it when i have the head off and set the tolerances then and then double check once on the bike cheating with the starter

ok so compresion tested numbers were not as good as i was hoping.  about 130 and 135 it was soposed to be 155-145 when i bought it 2k miles ago

also went to check valves one exhaust seems to be about right couldn't check the other cause i can't turn the motor over.  if i try and turn the rear wheel in 1st gear i can lift the bike up. if i bear hug the rear wheel and try and turn it i almost twist it off its center stand. WTF is wrong. i pulled the spark plugs out i just can't seem to compress the valves. the vid i watched made it seem pretty easy to compress them.

but i when ahead and pulled the motor. which is also a pain in the ass.  i heard the easy way was to lay it on a some box springs and then just lift the motor out the side. NO!! the bolts have to slide out the other side and the mother has to so some magic turn and twist to clear the frame. took about 2 hours after removing all the bolts to get that POS out.

wasn't a good start of a winter project

and i failed to remeber to bring a camera

It is nearly impossible to turn the engine in first gear by pushing the wheel. You need to do it in 6th. Think about it, you want to have the most leverage on the engine by being in the highest gear...

Mdow

^ talked to my brother about that one and said 6th would have been the beter idea i just didn't think about it that way.

owhell ill get on that when i put it back together motor is out right now

I'm about a week from putting mine back in and now you've got me scared?!  What makes it so difficult?  Any tips you can pass along to help the project move forward?

Thanks,

Nick

It was difficult to lift the motor at the correct angle and fit it in the frame without busting up the new paint on the frame.  We ended up setting the motor on a block and lifting the frame over the engine and "wiggling" it until it fit.

I am sure there is a better way, but I couldn't see it.  I read a couple of threads on here about installing the motor, but it wasn't nearly as easy as those threads made it sound.

great! I waited for awhile but got impatient with myself and finishing the engine rebuild so I know have the front and rear end put back on the frame! My first plan was to lower to frame onto the engine then put everything back together but damn my impatience!

Anyone care to add input or suggestions to someone just getting ready to reinstall the eninge?

Thanks,

Nick
