I searched for quite some time for pictures of pre 2001 bikes with >2001 fuel tanks. I hardly found anything.

Can somebody point out some pictures of the setup?

Here's an '04 tank on an '89 (ben2go's bike):

I am about to put an '06 tank on my '89 pretty soon, I will take some pictures when I get it done.

Common sense in not very common.

Finally, here are the pictures taken this afternoon. This is Yev's old gray tank on my '89. It fits right on, but makes the seat scrunch up a bit at the front, and I miss the cut outs on the front that let you get to full lock on the bars - now my hands get pinched against the tank. The new tank doesn't have the locating holes for the front of the side plastics either, but it snugs up pretty well. I like it - it also adds another new color to the bike !

Thanks Tang.  :thumb:

Front end is off a GS550, the forks drop right in and they are air assisted too - well, you can add in some air pressure to make them stiffer, at least. The stock GS500 plastic fender won't fit them, but any metal 70's/80's GS one bolts on - I got the blue one off a GS850 for $5 on Ebay (it has a small bit of road rash on the leading edge, but so what).

Simoniz, the only thing you need now is a chin spoiler and some sort of paint job. You have probably the most attractive pieces of the GS line on that bike... 1st gen rear clip, F series tank, 550 front end, 1st gen clip ons... Now if only they were all the same color... And maybe if you did the ol' F-headlight conversion.

Lol, looks killer I must say!

What, respray it all to match and lose all the multi colored mongrel charm? Heresy!  :D

Seriously, thanks for the kind words Dan. I like it this way.....in those colors, I know it's my bike and it looks unique, and nobody is interested in stealing something so odd looking (at least, not yet).
