help - fuel leak

so last night was a complete comedy of errors for me -

I was low on gas so I turned the petcock on my 89 GSE to the top - prime?? and ran it to a staff party a few kms from work.  I forgot to turn it off and then parked on the side stand.

When I came out three hours later, the GS was sitting in a puddle of gas and the tank was now completely dry.

Plus, I think I left the parking light on.

I had to push it doen the block to a gas station, fill the tank, and then it woiudlent turn over dead battery.

call for a tow truck for a jump start, and it took forever for it to catch and then it ran really really rough on the way home, and my choke seemed to have to affect on the rpm like it usually does.

It stuttered all the way home, and stalled at the lights -

any suggestions what I may have done? Did the leaking gas 'foul' something?

If your float height is set correctly, you shouldn't leak all of the gas out like that even on prime.  If they're not set correctly, or are leaking, yep, you can.

Use the Quick Kerry Float Height Check to see if they are:

If your carbs are flooded, the bike will be hard to start and will run a little roughly.

Check for fuel in your oil and don't fire the bike up until you're sure there is none
