ok, so what the heck... so last night i was putting my carbs back together... put the left slide in and cover on... everythings going great! next, the right side. wait a minute... the flange doesnt fit in the grove! well... after some deliberation and much frustration i came up with a sweet plan which consisted of using 5 or 6 paperclips to hold the flange in the grove while i screwed the top on. well, to say the least it got it on without pinching the diaphragm, but i tested the slide and found it was much slower responding than the left side. i would push the slide up and it would almost get stuck and then slowly mosey its way back down. im thinking the response of the diaphragm is somehow effected by it stretching to fit in the grove. i thought it might get better (which it actually did, slightly) with some excersize, but still a noticeable difference. anyway, i read in another thread that soaking it in cleaner tends to make the diaphragm swell. my question is what kind of cleaner (certainly not carb cleaner... hah!)?  i guess ill try water for now. anybody got any other suggestions?

Well, I don't know what affect it does have, but carb cleaner will affect your plastics. They always suggest removing any plastic such as diaphragms and o-rings before using carb cleaner.

Did you happen to get cleaner on the diaphragm?

Spray wd 40 on it a bit, get it slick and wiggle it in ... or soak in gas. Few mins and it will get to the right size. Put it on quick and you're good.
Cool.
