WOW. I put in the 150 mains last night and added a second washer again, bringing it to 1mm on the needles. Set the screws to 3.5 turns out, all in anticipation for the clamp on K&N.

Well, today i decided to bolt everything back on, since i can do it in my sleep anyhow. I bolted the carbs back on and lovingly left off that hulking mountain of plastic called an airbox... again in anticipation of the clamp ons. So i was curious on how it would run with wide open carbs since the K&N would be very close jetting wise...OMG

I cant believe the AWESOME delightful intake scream, and the build of power that follows!!!! OMFG!! as pablo says, i realized today that i love my bike.

I know, i know, i shouldnt ride it like that.. well i just took it for a short ride. But i gotta say, my bike has NEVER run like it should. I went from 127.5 mains that were waaaay too lean... to the 150 monsters and its perfect now! Maybe a bit lean, but the clamp on will solve that. OMG... love it. I never believed anyone when they said the bike builds power in the upper range.. now i do. It simply screams up top... and i can actually feel the pull.. its scary!

its like going from a moped to a gixxer in the same frame...

No wonder i didnt like the bike as much as i used to.

I have heard the same story so many times with 150's...I cannot imagine how KevinC was using 135's and felt even that was rich...

I am running 140's with just the pod and got to check the plugs yesterday and they were a nice tan/maroon color with about 2-3k miles since the pod filter swap.

Well when you get my pipe on...better buy some 150's...140's are ok with stock pipe...BTW sorry I am running late...the silly welder kid is a bit dodgy...evidently his neighbors kid drove their car into a ditch...not too bad/serious...only the ditch was like 10 miles away, and the kid is 10....Turns out the kid knows to drive...cos the welders brother taught him to, and one fine day he decided he's going for a drive...so now the car is in impound and the kid in the slammer...Never ends...I now know why he's not too $$$...Anyway that and having the week wash out due to Packing and getting my Mom in law to the Atlanta Airport (250 miles 1 way) I am behind on everything.

i just got the k&n filter and have a yosh exaust with stock carbs.  will the 150's work?  what about the washers?

Rashad

They will work if you have clamp on filters.. if its just the drop in filter, then no, youll need maybe 140s or less..

Hehe got mine too!!  What year gs do you have? if its older style then you can use 40 pilots, 1 or 2 washers on the needles, and the main will depend on whether or not you have a pipe.

I've got the K&N clamp-on and STOCK exhaust.  I had 145 mains in and did a WOT plug check - looked fine.  I switched up to 147.5's and the bike pulls even better at the top end, 1/2 - full throttle.  Haven't checked plugs.  Might try 150's, but I think I'm at the sweet spot.

147.5's with stock pipe...I have run 1 size up from stock for a slip on... and air box with UNI...and I have 150 with slip on and K&N clamp ons...Now you have tried 145...and where did you start...cos Kevin and I have the on going argument about the mains you should run with pipe and K&N clamp on pods.

Well, I started w/ 145's.  I didn't find any clear info on what mains for the stock pipe w/ K&N pod... heard anywhere from 140-150.  But, I was under the impression that most slip-on pipes don't do much for performance/air flow... so I figured a stock exhaust w/ K&N should be jetted close/same as slip-on w/ K&N (150).  That was my logic, anyway.  So I figured I'd start a couple sizes below 150 and work my way up.

I'll do another full-throttle plug check w/ the 147.5's and report back.  Considering the plug condition w/ the 145's and the improved performance now w/ the 147.5's, I'd be suprised if it's overly rich... but 150's might be.
