Hi guys

It seems the GS wiki is under spam attack.  Every time I go to read something, I have to wade through tons of spam posts to restore the content.  Anyone know if this is normal, and if there is anything we can do about it?

Thanks

You could probably turn off anonymous edits.... That's what wikipedia ended up doing...

I just went and restored several of the wiki pages.  And in fact, a spammer was doing the same!  Jack Donkey!

Probably automated.  Is there a way to automate dialing 866-441-3579 ?

The last week has mostly been "something.yourfreehosting dot net"  Possible to block any post containing that site?

Sanjay - I think that is the webmaster of the wiki.

Sanjay,

I want to make clear that I am NOT criticizing you or the work you do on the wiki.  I love the site.  I love that we can all edit it.  I have a website too and I have trouble keeping up with it.  I spend some time with my family or get involved in a project at work, and the next thing I know I am hacked and spammed and shut down.

So - thank you Sanjay.

Since the GS500 wiki is hosted using a Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-Share Alike 2.5 License, you can host a MediaWiki (http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/MediaWiki) and port the data.  With a MediaWiki we would have MUCH more control and transparency.  Just make sure to put a note on the front page attributing the information to the original wiki.

well I am ready to setup the wiki on gstwin. The subdomain is already setup http://wiki.gstwins.com

I am waiting for the data.

humm... it seems MediaWiki requires PHP5, we're running 4.9.x.x, i cant upgrade to 5 yet because this forum works best with PHP4 and not 5, I'll upgrade to 5 and fix everything once the new version of SMF is out.

I'd be happy to host the wiki on my server (which I've had since 2006), which mediawiki works fine on.  I've got tons of bandwidth that I am happy to donate (this past month I've only used: 4357.88/999000 MB) and have more than enough space.  The two issues would be:
1. The wiki would have the domain theanova.com (e.g. www.theanova.com/GSWiki or gswiki.theanova.com).
2. All hosted images would either need to be available under a Creative Commons or GNU license (or any other that allows for free non-commercial distribution w/ attribution) or they would have to qualify for fair use (I don't want to risk the entire wiki going under from overzealous C&D notices).

Once it is running though, it would be pretty much self-sustaining.

I am duplicating the Wiki Files on GStwin, I will wait for Sanjay to send me the wiki files.
