It may disturb you that Revere takes stereotypes seriously, but keep in mind that stereotypes are there because they are most often true. There's a line between accepting a stereotype and racism...you don't cross that line until you believe the stereotype applies 100% of the time.

It's not hard to argue with statistics, and many people do, but it not possible to justify the argument.

thanks Revere2. i wasn't so much looking for removal of the material although I always welcome judicious self censorship. I am sorry if I offended you. I didn't mean to imply that you were purposefully propagating white power literature. and now reading my response I admit I was not clear in that. I don't know you so can't make any assumptions. its just that the tenor of your posts had striking resemblances to well known tactics. To write about resorting to "harsh" vigilante violence against African Americans justified by either police inactivity or a perception of their culture as inherently violent is deeply disturbing to say the least.

I urge you and anyone else reading this who may be dealing with the kind of community issues described herein to find a more constructive not to mention legal outlet for finding resolution.

I've often wondered why Americans do that, Irish American, Italian American and so on, it seems to be an American Phenomina as far as I am aware other "young" countries like Australia don't do it.

On my last longish ride I stayed a couple of nights in the Alsace which is part of France but mainly German speaking but the locals that I spoke to regarded themselves as 100% French. In some places like the German speaking part of the Italian Tyrol that was Austria untill the 1914-18 war the language is a bit divisive and an excuse for nationalism/seperatism but none of this applies to the US.

So why does it happen then? African American? Irish American? Funny thing is I've never heard anyone refer to German American or British American and I believe that they were the two largest groups to populate the "new world" - well the North of it anyway.

funny thing is "african american is basically the only one which covers an ENTIRE continent. ask one which country they are from err can trace their ancestry to. most say africa

Stanger and stranger, so do the rest of you call yourselves Euro-American, Asian-American ? no I don't think so. I can see why, say, the Kennedy clan, traded on the Irish-American thing when it was a vote winner around Boston but surely things have moved on and the sub-division should be redundant by now especially with no major linguistic division within the U.S.
Don't get me wrong there is nothing wrong with being proud of your ancestry and background (even if it is romantically fictionalised) but wearing it as a badge of identity mystifies me unless it is part of a seperatist agenda perhaps. Oh well another of life's little mysteries to figure.

Cal, it's because a few decades ago we had this thing come up called "affirmative action". It was a good thing when it was made...like unions, Democrats, U2, and vanilla cream soda. Unfortunately, all good things, in the hands of a relative few, will be used for evil. A small few of them took the power presented and twisted it to speak not that they were equal to all men, but better, and that the rest owed them great things for their history. They ignore the fact that we all descend from a people once enslaved and prejudiced. My wife and I both are of Aryan decent...a people typically viewed as being at the forefront of racial bias and hate...yet even we were slaves at one time.

It's all ridiculous and goes back to my idea that United States citizens, as a people, tolerate far to much. I believe much the same could be said about the whole world. People are rebellious by nature, vengeful by spirit, and hateful by life. Eventually there's going to be a time when a great portion of the populace stands up and says "We're not going to take this sh!t anymore," and the days following will be a little scary.

Don't get me started on that damned "Kennedy Klan". Old Joe Kennedy was a damn slum lord/bootlegger. He made sure his children and grandchildren benefited from it. From that he made sure they went to the finest schools "and passed". Being Catholic, he never could break into the highest ranks of the elitists "at the time" including the House of Astor, Morgan, Rockefeller, Rothchild,and such. Whenever I see "his son", Teddy................on the "TV"............with a #2 pencil high in the air lambasting some unseen powers of racism and wealth, I have to remind myself that HE and HIS FAMILY are part of it ALL that have brought us to our rotten fruition and want to slap him until he loses all bladder and bowel function, knowing that he has a "$300 Mont Blanc mechanical pencil" inside his $1000 suit with his $1000 alligator shoes, that sorry worthless scum. He KNOWS what "the South" thinks of him.
