Need diagnosis...(probably carb)

I have a 97 gs. I bought the bike as the 3rd owner and the guy I bought it from didn't have it very long/doesn't know the history of the bike...but it has v&h exhaust + k&n pods. The bike has slow throttle response/surging, problems starting up and has trouble idling until it has been warm 20+ minutes. The battery is pretty new and the spark plugs look new as well.  It had been dropped once so I suspect something got knocked in the carbs when it hit or since it has aftermarket exhaust, the jets weren't done correctly. Does this sound familiar to anyone? If so, what plan on buying once I rip into this bad boy?

Well clean, rejet etc. If it has DJ jets in it - pray ...
