I just got a bunch of photo stuff, including some macro lenses, so I decided to take some extreme close up shots of my GS... It is a '94 with 86,623.3 miles on it, so it has been on the road for quite some time. I have a new gas tank for the bike and I'm thinking of spring for a paint job for the tank and plastics... I think the factory paint job has held up pretty well, but it is about done...

A dent in the tank.

The left most digits of my odometer.

The right most digits..

Horn button.

Another tank dent.

The largest part of my tank without paint. It has been covered in "rust converter" which makes it not rust...

Close up of the left controls...

My amazing fork dust seal. The actual oil seals seem to be intact, it isn't leaking...

I write directions on my tank in China marker... I did just get a tank bag though...

More China marker and a nice big scratch.

My neutral indicator lens. After 15 years on the road, it isn't as transparent as it probably should be...

After turning the bike on so many times, the paint on the gauge bracket wore off and then stuff started to rust. Not the first time either, this thing has been painted at least a couple times...

The hole at the front of my seat. It has been there for quite some time.

A close up of the amazing weld between the exhaust and muffler. As far as I know this is stock, unless someone decided to cut off the stock can and weld it back on for some bizarre reason...

I also got a pinhole lens. Here is a shot of my speedometer with my high precision time keeping device in the foreground and some plants in the background.

So there you have it. This is what my bike looks like really really close up. I swear it looks nice from further away. Here's a shot of the bike from a more normal distance. The tank bra was covering a lot of the dents in the tank, but I took it off because it was starting to look even worse than the dents underneath...

Thanks! The camera is a Canon EOS 20d. The lens is an f1.4 50mm ultrasonic Canon lens. Half the pictures were taken with the lens on a reversing ring and the other half were taken with the same lens on an extension tube. The reversing ring and extension tubes I got are just cheap Chinese eBay purchases that were mailed to me from Hong Kong.

This was my first day out with this setup, but the rest of the images I took are posted here:

Macro photography is cool, I went on a little photo expedition in the planter and parking right out in front of my apartment and found all kinds of neat stuff to take pictures of.
