Is it just me, or is anyone else drooling over that new FZ-6 from Yammie, and the V-Strom 650?  Geez, they both look like such well made, versatile, do-it-all mid-size bikes...I'm tempted to sell the GS, sell the V-Star,  toss a coin, and make a deal.

JamesG

The FZ is sexy but  heavy and doesn't have adjustable suspension.

The DL650 is practical, but tall and ugly as sin.

Hey we all are big fans of the GS right...and someone comes in here making a statement like this and no one in 1/2 an hour has slung mud at this guy...The only other group that is any where near as fanatical is ...you guessed it Harley lists...and their discussions are more like I put these saddle bags on mine and they stick out too far...bla bla and you say anything about any other make and they ban you for life...I guess the smarter crowd also is more aware of the rest of the biking world and bikes capabilities and limits...
Cool.

The FZ6 looks like it will be a sweet bike.  I've been lusting for a Jet Black Triumph Speed 4 lately.  I'm sure the FZ6 is more of a "practical" bike but the suspension and look of the Speed 4 has got me hooked.

Srinath, people here don't really bag on others because we're interested in other bikes.  We're not in a pissing match with the next guy like other forums.  It seems like people here are "adults" and it makes for a pleasant board that I've enjoyed since I joined.  It also helps that people don't start political and religious threads.  Those never end well and I steer clear of those always ;)

I have a lot of respect for SS's mechanical and tech knowledge, but I'm confused...there must be a point here somewhere, I just don't know what it is.  Did I say something wrong?

You haven't said anything wrong.  He was just making a comment that on other boards many people would have given you crap for expressing interest in a different bike :)

Your stats proved my point.   :nana:

Remember this is the "feel good about our humble little half liter bike" support group.

BTW- My comment wasn't a flame. Just an observation I have noticed about those 2 new bikes.  ;)

Eh, neither one does it for me in the looks department. In fact, neither does the GS500F. <ducks> I like the naked motorcycle look of our bikes.

Srinath's right, this is a pretty tolerant board. It is interesting to note how many people on the board have bought other bikes but still have a place in their heart (and sometimes garage) for the GS500.

James-
No problem at all with your comments...they are your opinions and I respect them...the stats were put up to clarify the terms "tall" and "heavy"...which are subjective until numbers are put to them.

Andy-
I'm assuming that Srinath meant his convoluted comments to be an awkwardly expressed, yet sincere approval of this board's general attitudes.  If that is the case, then I agree.

I've been on this board for quite a few months now...as well as other boards.  Discussion of other models is very common.  It happens on GStwin.com frequently.  A lot of new models are coming out, and being discussed. I was first made aware of the FZ6 on THIS board,  as the Fazer, and then as the FZ6,  both times posts included BIG PHOTOS...and not a negative word was heard, as should be the case.  SRINATH himself references and discusses other models all the time...which is why his inconsistent comments  were confusing.

No worries, mon.

I agree dmp with your lust over the FZ6.  That bike is awesome.   My garage will definitely have room for the GS and what ever comes next?

The FZ looks sweet.

Any idea on price yet?

I wonder how the fuel injection compares to the SV's

I think the GS board is so lax on bike loyalty because the GS is most people's first bike and a lot are looking to step off to a larger bike once they feel they have mastered the GS. Now on other boards where they bought the bike for the name or because its so much "better" than any other bike out there is where you run into the elitest attitude.

dmp221 - We gotta keep you on your toes dude.   ;)

If its like the R6 and R1 then it will be better and smoother than the twin suzukis.  They've had a few years to straighten out the kinks and 4s generally behave better.

If I hadn't just bought a YZF and am still happy with it's full fairings and fully adjustable suspenders, I would be angling for the FZ6 or possibly (remotely) the DL.

Even those who find the GS to be the "best" bike for them are far from pleased; it's just so much a compromise. This bike is made to be cheap, useful and reliable and fun.  As a side-effect, you get the naked look.  But ask even the most devoted owner, and you'll get a litany of things they wish were different/better/removed/added.  For example, look for anyone, anywhere who thinks the GS suspension is OK.  Yet a lot of GSes were purchased in the first place because of the price point, and if Suzi had added all those features to the stock bike, there might not be so many available to us to play with....and then what would Srinath do with all his spare time?

So I think that we are all a little more tolerant, because even we think that the GS is far from perfect.
You cannot escape our master plan!
