Left 07 switch cluster on a 91?

I just picked up an 07 left switch cluster (at least, I think that's what this is called: it's the little guy with the turn signal, horn, and headlight switch). I figured it wouldn't be that hard to get this to work for the wiring on my 91. Anyone have thoughts or experience with this? I figured I would just buy whatever adapter I need and replace the one on the bike with that one. Then it should just plug and play, right?

I think it's a un-solder re-solder job on the controls. I could be wrong though. Go to BikeBandit.com and get a parts layout pic of the controls from both years and compare them.

I think they may have changed the connector on the controls at some point. Take a look, it will either be a direct swap where you can unplug one and plug in the other, or the connector will be different and you'll need to solder the old connector onto the new controls, which shouldn't be too bad...

Hey All- I got the majority of this work done over the last few days. I did have to change out a connector, which was a pain for me (lots of trips to stores and lots of online purchases), so now I have a few questions.

1991 model:
If I understand correctly, the brown and the black/white wires at the bottom of the headlight bucket (these wires come out of the main wiring harness) are not supposed to plug into anything. Also, there is a mystery orange wire that originally plugged into one of the connectors (though it didn't have anything that plugged into it from the other side), that doesn't seem to do anything useful. So I went ahead and plugged the orange wire into a new connector and just left it. Thoughts?

Also, my headlight doesn't work. 2 bulbs have been tested and neither will illuminate. That just plugs into the three prong plug, right? No other connections? What am I missing with the headlight situation - of all the electrical nonsense, I'm really surprised the headlight is giving me trouble...

The GS is a cheap bike. I highly doubt that they would bother running extra wiring that didn't do anything. You should take a long hard look at the wiring diagram and figure out where your extra wires are supposed to go. It is likely you missed something important like a switched power line or a ground... It is possible that some previous owner messed with the wiring before you got there, but you'll probably be best off to try and get it back to stock.

Hmmm... I agree, but I want to hear what some of the gurus say about this. It's a cheap bike for sure, but I don't know about those wires...
