GS Discs

Hello,

Just got an offer from my local mechs on new discs and pads for both rear and front brakes.  Best price is like 550US$ for not-original and about 700US$ for the original pieces. The floating disc in fron alone is like 325US$. Freakin' crazy...

I was just wondering if there really is no cheaper alternative. I tried Ebay, but most of the pieces on both UK,US and DE is below the service limits.

Is it possible to swap another front wheel/disc which is more "economic" in spares?

Katana FE swap. Kat rear wheel swap. I'll sell you both with a coolest wave new disk for 700. Rear disk is new, but front disks are good, not new.
Kat disks and pads also last 4-8 times as long as GS ones. Better caliper design is what I credit with for that.

RonAyers wants $241 for a oem front rotor and BikeBandit wants $151 for a EBC brand front rotor.  $325 for a oem front rotor is way too much.  Check the parts fiches and shop around places like Chaparral and Dennis Kirk for prices.

This is about the cheapest place in the UK for GS5 parts, prices are in £s and you can knock another 15% off because overseas orders are tax free.....no idea on shipping costs though

I'm gonna go with sledges link to the UK shop. Just cut the original price in half.
Any reason other than design, why one should choose the Wavy model over EBC / Pattern? I just want the one with most miles in.

I just got a rear disc off the E place (brand new) for 87.00 dilivered. The shop that is mounting the tires will put the disc on for a extra 5 bucks. Granted they are getting me for 80 bucks to mount and balance the tires but I'm not complaining.

Actually you can do this and split the cost with someone here and be out way ahead and have the newest, coolest fashion (and performance, to boot)...

Im enjoying the EBC disc I bought.   you can always have the rotors turned or surfaced grinded down within tolerance by a local machine shop if the disc have room to play. the GS500 book should tell you the tolerances and it would be cheeper maybe than buying new.

something to look into. when I worked as a machinist for the airforce I surface ground a good deal of motorcycle rotors .
