I bought this bike in August. It's been a great starter bike but I'm ready to upgrade. 1400 miles, easy street riding only. No freeways. Had the 600 mile service.

$4000.00 Includes a 3 yr extended Suzuki warranty.

Wow!
All that experience, a whole 1,400 miles since August and you're ready to upgrade already?
Are you going to buy a HondaSuzukiKawasakiYamaha Gazillion 10-cylinder? Oh, yes, I'm sure you are all ready for it!
Good luck!
What in the world are you thinking?
Haven't you read any of the advice from longtime motorcyclists here on this site about learning, and I mean really learning, how to ride and stay alive on the road in traffic in every kind of situation?
I have a teen-ager and she's been driving a car since August, too.
She tells me, "Dad, I KNOW how to drive" all the time.
I tell her, "honey, you are still LEARNING how to drive."
That will continue for a long time.
And for you and your motorcycle, that is also true.
I'm not saying this to be mean or to put you down.
I'm telling you this because it is true and I and the rest of us here on this Web site that we love would like to see you live long and prosper.
Rethink this idea of yours, my friend.
You still have a lot of learning left about riding a motorcycle on the street.
I've been riding since I was 16 in 1975 and there isn't a day on my bike when I don't learn something new.
Oh, and by the way, I've owned bigger and faster bikes in the intervening years, but I downsized and bought my beloved GS500E in 1993 and have owned it ever since.
I have ridden it from PA to WI, from PA to MA and everywhere in between. It is everything a motorcycle should be except expensive, complicated and a status symbol.
It just is a great bike that is the perfect platform for you to keep learning, and then it's still the perfect bike to own as you become an expert rider.
It's fast enough, light enough, nimble enough and FUN enough to do anything you want to do with it.
Please don't take my note as criticism. I do hope you take it very seriously.
We're all here to help you.
One of the best things about this site is all of the teaching and education we give to each other on riding. Look through the search engine for it and you will find it helpful.
Best wishes,

I rode a 125cc for 1 week, then rode a friends cbr600, was ready to upgrade on the spot....it's not THAT hard lol...I think it just depends on how confident you feel...if feeling confident and solid about riding a more powerful bike, I would do it

But they are just too unnecessarily powerful...although niiiice power...but unnecessary....and sky rocket insurance for me at 22...definitely forget about it

JHoffy8

Its not about physically riding the bike, its the knowledge that comes along with the experience. Make sure you keep that confidence in check.

Yea true theres that aspect as well..
But you never know, an amateur just may be in fact possibly better than a professional..

one important rule in life - don't make assumptions ....
my post never said I was an inexperienced rider -- just ready to upgrade.

Trwhouse

Yo Larry,
In your post, you said it was a good "starter bike" for you.
I didn't say that.
YOU said that.
So tell us, just how long have you been riding?
And why would you only ride a bike 1,400 miles and start thinking that you are ready to upgrade?
Remember, you started this post, bub. :)
Yours,

Sorry just deciding to contribute to this....but wow..I could ride this 500 for 500KM and be ready to upgrade to a 1300 Hayabusa, theres no book to what you can do....I know people that see it that way and others who prefer to take it slow and gain knowledge/experience

Toogoofy317

Actually he was thinking of upgrading the day he got the bike

"I bought my 08 GS500 in OC for MSRP $5199 plus license. Cash. I bought the extended warranty. They originally wanted $800! Got it for $395. They still made some dough but I felt it reasonable. The GS is a really good 'adult' learner bike, very comfortable and with enough speed if you need it. I'm already thinking about the next upgrade.."

And yes anybody can hop on a "busa and ride after just a few trips on a bike. Anyone can ride in a straight line at a high rate of speed but how 'bout 4mph? How long it is 'till you wreck well that's another story too! I scraped up way too many of those "experienced" riders.

I'm one of those inexperienced riders Only ridden for 17 months with a few thousand miles. I'm a ATGATT rider, obey traffic laws, and am a safe rider. I am not however ready to jump on a Gixxer or a Hayabusa. Why I am just as satisfied on my 500 than I would be on a big ole bike! And I think it will be for many many years to come.

Sorry for getting on the soap box and yeah it is a sale thread. But, I just don't wanna see another rider go down from inexperience.
