I have had my Brothers bike at my place for 4monts waiting for the west cost kit and I can't keep waiting  :icon_eek:  I would gladly pay someone to rent there kit and even replace the shims used plus donate my old shims and pay shipping both ways....
If anyone can help me out, please shoot me an email.
Thanks..                          civcklr@aol.com

how many shims do you need....
or
have you checked the clearances yet?
are all out of spec?

you don't need the kit to just check them?

You can buy shims, and a removal tool if you want to spend money. All you need then is a thickness guage and maybe a caliper.

if you re assembled the engine.....
measure clearance
pull cam caps and remove shims
check shim thicknesses
swap if you can or purchase which ones you need
install cams

you can do this low tech.....

Hi there,
I disagree with werase.
Don't pull cam caps and cams -- way too complicated.
Do it the right way with the right tool and remove and measure the shims.
Do you have a shop manual, with the valve shim replacement chart?
Do you have the other needed tools, to turn the crank, to retorque the cylinder head, etc?
Are you aware that you should install new shims with a coating of oil on them and then manually turn the crank 360 degrees to squeeze the oil oout from between the shims and the cam lobes so you can get proper measurements?
The valve shim removal tool made by Motion-Pro is cheap at about $25 or so, and very well worth it.
I never need to replace more than one shim at a time, so I don;t think you need to have a large selection to do yours.
When you measure your shims, use the replacement chart and see what you need. If a shim is required, then pick one up at your local dealer.
Did someone do a valve job on this head?
When you say the valves are all out of spec, what kinds of gaps are you seeing?
Good luck.
