when i took my trip on thanksgiving to see my dad he reminded me of a few boxes i had left there in highschool. i've got probably close to 1000 misc sports cards. how can i get accurate pricing for the worth of my cards without being scammed or paying an arm and a leg? i tried to look up the cards on becket website but you have to pay a subscription fee to see card pricing.  :dunno_white:

Most arent worth jack unless sealed in plastic and graded by a 3rd party... ( http://www.psacard.com/ ) this usually costs close to what the card is worth, so not very practical. the baseball card game has changed much over the years and unless they are from later than the 70's most arent worth much at all. in the 80's and 90's cards got sooo mass produced that they became mostly worthless... Not to say they are all worthless but for the most part no one is going to give you what you think your collection is worth. you can expect about .10 per card or so if there are some good ones in there. Your best bet is find your best cards and take them to a shop, see what they say. Collectors are sooo picky today thatyou cant even have a bit of fuzz on the edges (hence the sealed plastic cases) Cards in a book w/ plastic pages are going to be junk.

The most valuble baseball/hockey etc.. collectibles are OLD! VERY OLD! and usually not cards but pennants, awards and specialty items. Also un opened packs, rack packs and boxes can be worth some good $ if they are from the right years. Again, mostly old, back in the 30's-60's..

I have a HUGE hockey/baseball collection that in the early 90's I could have sold for over 5K... now I bet I couldnt get $200 for them.

Some cards that can be worth money are error cards... I collected a TON of them in the late 80's early 90's and I have a few worth some good $$$ because they had been recalled and only a few snuck out  :D Also Rookie cards of valuble players, but those prices have a high and low just like the stock market... Each player has his day when the card is worth $150... two years later it can be worth $15...

i do have some small understanding of the market. it's not about the player themselves usually, its on how rare a card is. ive tried to look and see which of my cards were "mass produced" or run in very large batches. i'm sure i've got a few cards worth a couple bucks apiece but the majority of my cards are all 90-94. the ones still in decent shape i'll do my best to keep preserved and just sit on them i suppose. i've got a collection, i believe it's the full set but haven't gone through them all, of cards that are from various player's college days. i believe they were done during their draft year. 93-94. and like most things, some of my cards value may depend on the particular person intrested in them i'm sure.

I'm in the same boat with my collection...  I've got about 2000 cards, but I don't really know what I've got in there....

I'm planning on keeping it that way until about 2020...  that way my cards will be about 40-50 years old.

i have about 4 football cards from the late 60's early 70's and when i chacked them 15 yrs ago they were all over 300 each. I figure some day i might try to sell them but sports cards are like a gs500 they are only worth what someone else will pay for them.

Thats about the only way you will get $$$ out of 80's-90's cards... Even then, only graded or EXTREMELY well protected carsd are going to be worth $$$

Just check eBay... Only graded cards are bringin $$$
