maybe its just me im not saying you dont deserve anything for your troubles but this is the reason insurance rates are so  high.   if you just fixed this bike and didnt want to get rich off the other persons insurance my rates would go down.  if it was me i would already have my bike fixed and be out riding it.  its is part of the reason this world is getting the way it is everyone want to get rich or compinsated for something that really isnt as bad as its made out to be.  if you have med bill have them paid for if you missed work have it paid for.  but your bike isnt any more beat up then some ive seen here on the site that people have bought and fixed up for a few bucks.

You know that's kinda the point why he pays insurance though to have things fixed when someone else screws them up right? Our rates are never going to go down cause the insurance guys just take the left over money anyway. When someone knocked my bike over I asked them to assess the damage they never paid one dime out for the bike but my rates still went up! So, yeah I'm gonna make 'em pay when I can cause the rates are just gonna go up anyway.

Take last year for example down here in Florida when I first got my sunfire insurance was $90 a month not bad. Then florida let the "no fault" law lapse for two months. Our policies were "rewritten" for that two months and it came up to $130 a month! Soooo, I assumed once our laws went back into effect it would go back. Nope went up another $3 a month so now is $133 a month. I have to pay $513 a year extra for no extra coverage. If that is not getting reamed I don't know what is! I had no accidents or claims why am I being punished!

Hope you get what you deserve! Anyone else had that problem in Fl?

Woah, what kind of crazy insurance do you have? Both of my GSs cost something like $220 a year to insure. How could you possibly be paying $133 a month? At those rates you could just not insure the bike and get a new one every 10 months instead of ever fixing them...

I was in a car accident a year ago and had to deal with my friends insurance.  I didnt care to make extra money from them so we just got my medical bills paid and i got around 2000 extra.  Everyone said I should have gotten more but I figured maybe if everyone stops taking free money then our rates would go down.  Doubt it though lol, in my city everyone is trying to make a quick buck.  Its so bad down here that at one point a lawyer had a sign across the front of his building saying "good parents dont let their children get hurt" but the kicker is he was across the street from our childrens hospital.  He is one of the biggest leaches around and unfortunatly for everyone else he will sue the snot out of anyone.

NO NO that was for my car. The bike is a whole different story which is ironic cause the bike is worth more than the car! My bike is $33 a month! Progressive is good I just need to talk to someone and see how much the car would be. I'm sick of Esurance!

Well, the insurance company got in touch with me today... the bike is totaled.  Their offer:

$1940.00 and I keep the bike
$2627.00 to let them take it

:o

Well I don't have to worry about them lowballing me.

I think I'm going to let them take it, but I'm taking the weekend to decide.

refer them to your attorney.   One day you're gonna get old and sore like me and at least then you can look back and say, well, at least I got a better check from the Insurance co. by holding out.
Attack but have a back up plan

Toogoofy317

I don't get that? How is money going to make it better? If he is injured make them "fix" his injury I.E. proper medical care. But, from what he has stated he's a little sore so why should an attorney be involved at this point. I think that is quite a fair price for the bike either way he decides to take it. I don't think this was his only form of transportation so I don't see a lot of "hardship" from not having a vehicle here either. I'm in no way for the insurance company but if you get a decent deal leave it at that why keep pushing and pushing!

My two cents.

Make sure you let them know if you missed any days of work for this.  Unless your gonna fix the bike and use it then I would say just let them take it because if you fix it and sell it you wont get much for it after it has a salvage title.

The bike settlement and the medical settlement are two different things.  All they've offered so far is the bike settlement.  My followup exam is Monday and I don't even have all the hospital bills yet...

I'm just glad they didn't offer me like $1200 for the bike

Toogoofy317

By all means if you are injured I retract my statement. Make sure they 'fix' that and fix is proper. I did go for the just pay my ER bill and we'll be fine. Eight years later my hip did what the ER doc said it'd do start popping and trying to dislocate. I in my infinate immortal 20 year old body was like sure whatever it's okay now why would it do that when I'm older.

But, that is a decent price for the bike. You can get a good replacement for it. But, make sure you have your doctors documenting this as the MVA cause an error could send it to your reg insurance and then they get all pissy and will end up in collection before you know what even happened. Trust me on that one!
