Hi,
I need to change the drive chain on my 2000 GS500E.
I was looking for chains online and came across this chain on ebay.

Do anyone think this chain is as goos as suzuki stock?
Also, after 30000 miles, do you think I should change my sprocket on the rear tire as well?

I don't know about the chain, looks fine to me, but neither of my bikes have needed chains since I've had them... As far as tires and sprockets go, look for things that would make you worry. On the tire, look for wear bars, dry rot, flat spots and all that kind of thing. You don't want to get a flat while you're riding, so be conservative about it and replace the tire earlier rather than later. As far as sprockets go, take a good look at them. There are some good pictures you can find with search on this site or in a service manual that will show you what to look for. Some people on the board change their sprockets every time they change the chain, others do it every other chain and there are probably plenty of people out there who just change it when it doesn't look good anymore. If you post pictures of the things you have questions about, we will be able to better help you.

Thanks a lot for your opinion. May b it's time for you to inspect your chain.

Looks like the generic kmc chain to me. I run and am happy with it. Just maintain it, lube it up often and it'll last. Previous owner didn't maintain chain properly on my bike and it only lasted 14k miles. Whereas my current cheapo looks to last 40k miles or more. Barely needed any adjustments in 10,000 miles or so. A key to longevity is actually keeping the chain a little on the loose side.

Thanks so much for the tips. How did yours fail after14k?

Well the original chain didn't fail it just reached the end of the adjustment zone, you shouldn't wait for your chain to fail to replace it. It like waiting for your tire to pop from wearing out before getting a new one. When on it's sidestand I also adjust it for about one inch of free play. That's because when the suspension is compressed so that the swing arm is parallel to the ground the free play is about .5 inches which is how it should be, adjust it to .5 inches on it's own and it'll get a little tight when the suspension compresses and on a worn out chain you'll get uneven stretched spots when you hit a serious bump.
