Replacement mirror suggestions

I've noticed that the stock mirrors are pretty much useless - regardless of how I position them, I can't see much behind me w/o dropping either my left or right shoulder. I've looked at the SV650 mirrors and the mirrors at JC Whitney and they don't seem to be any better (the stalk is too short). I'm not a big fan of mirrors mounted off the end of the bars either. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to pick up some useable mirrors?

Any idea when the 2004's will be available? I like the new fairing and the mirrors mounted on the fairing probably do a better job.

Thanks,

-Paul

If you're shoulders are the problem I doubt the fairing mounted mirrors will help much (they are slightly higher and don't appear to be set wider apart from the photos I've seen, but its hard to tell from a pic). The SV650 mirrors are pretty much identical in placement, maybe slightly higher and narrower than stock.  With the stock mirrors I could tuck my elbow in and see just fine (including behind me) but they would often be blocked if my arm was hanging naturally.

I switched to napoleon bar end mirrors and I can see much more easily, though it does make it a little harder to lanesplit (so I've gone back and forth).  I also find they are more visible at speed, the stock mirrors got so blurry I couldn't tell a cop from a civic behind me over about 60 mph.  I don't think you'll have much luck finding a fairing until the spring and its likely to be pretty pricey when available.

I don't know what the compatibility is, but over at the ZR-7 forums, we have a guy who makes these nifty mirror extenders.

He might or might not be able to make you some for your GS's too...

(I have some, and they're the dog's bollocks, now I can see stuff BEHIND me, always a good feature for a mirror)

Thanks for posting the link - what a cool idea. It should be easy enough to fabricate something like that with some aluminum bar stock from the hardware store. I think I'll do that instead of replacing the mirrors.
