Hey everyone,

I know this is about a car, but I thought some of you might know what this is, it's got me stumped. :x

Just got a problem with my oil light coming on. It started yesterday, everytime I start the car the oil light comes on and when I put the clutch in and accelerate it turns off. I've checked the oil and everythings fine. Is this an electrical problem?
Any Ideas?

sounds like you have big trouble if its oil pressure. Could be oil pump.. or perhaps leaky compression. Do a comp. test asap. :thumb:

It's a 1984 Holden Gemini TG.

Most reliable car I've ever owned, hang on now that I think about it, it's the only car I've ever owned.

I've had it for 7 years and can't get rid of it. :)

Put a mechanical gauge on and see what the actual pressure is,  does it come on when its cold or only once its been warmed up?

generaly what your discribing (need more info) is either poor oil pump which will result in worn out bearings, OR bearings are already worn out and your living on minutes.  You could even have a faulty sending unit and it could be lieing to you, hence you need a gauge to be sure. most engines require a minimum of 8 PSI to keep oil light off.   once below that things tend to rub in a bad way,

i got one better for you, start the engine up, its 65psi when cold, once warm its 10psi, going down the road at 60mph its 25, let off the gas it climbs to 45 then slowly drops, step on gas it drops to 15 then rises. who can figure that one out. I know the answer, but wanted to see if anyone else can figure it out
Accelerate like your being chased, Corner like you mean it, Brake as if you life depends on it.

i would do what homer simpson did for his "check engine" light...

just put a piece of tape over it
the closer you are the quicker it hits you...

If you're lucky, it's just a bad oil pressure sending switch. If that doesn't fix the problem, it's likely a worn out oil pump or worn bearings - either of which is a fairly labor intensive repair. What's the mileage on the engine?

Chevette hey?

Sounds like a cross between a CHEVROLET and a CORVETTE

I've booked it in for a service on Thursday see how it goes then.

Yeah I've jumped mine a couple of times, mainly over roundabouts when the windscreen is so fogged that you can't see anything.

Thanks guys,

I was lucky it was just a bad switch, the pressure was fine  :thumb:

All fixed now!

Sometin to do with the oil...

In Austrailia, Fords are Fords, but Cheverolets are known as Holdens.

Hey now,

CHEVs are the mod miesters. You can slam some crazy small block Chevy motors in them and take them to the track. I saw one smoke a stock 'Vette at Atco (nj) a few years back..... SLEEPER

Talk about cheers from the crowd. That Chevette was the poop.
