My bike's mechanical issues have all been remedied, so I'm now going to replace my dented tank.  I purchased a used tank on craigslist that is dent free, but has a decent amount of rust on the inside.  Has anyone here used the Por 15 motorcycle tank repair kit?  Any tips for a Por15 newbie?

There's a ton of info about it on this site, just search.

If you decide to do it, just don't screw it up.  You're better off taking the rust out via acid (even though I'm not fond of it), mechanically, or with electrolysis and then using Kreem.  The Kreem sucks, but it won't require tank replacement if you screw it up.
Better yet, pay your local plating guy to dip it.  It's not an emergency, you don't need it THAT quickly.  No need for chrome, just a few zinc or nickel baths after an acid etch.

If you don't want to repaint, then pull it out with electrolysis and put on an in-line filter and maybe a zinc puck.
But that Por15... if you don't dry your tank completely TOTALLY dry, it'll set up right over the surface, not adhere, and generally turn your tank into a doorstop.

I did mine a couple seasons back and shared my experience on this page  http://wiki.gstwins.com/index.php?n=Restoration.TankRust. Just time consuming. Follow the directions to the T and you'll be all right.

Buddha does POR15 for $75 on GS tanks + return shipping.
Tips - almost as many as there are tanks.
Rust out acid works fine here.
Dry - well not quite ... but get all the acid out. Baking soda works here.
Blue POR15 crap.
Rinse with hot water.
Dry and I mean this time it has to be bone dry ... dry ... dry ... dry as the freaking sahara desert camels butt dry.
POR15 gas tank liner. 1 hour close all holes tight and slosh, and drain and really get that excess out (really - how ??? - depends on the tank really) and then sit in various positions for 2-3 hours then sit in a closed car sitting in the sun for 2-3 days.

My turnaround times sorta suck, but this time of the year it may be better, hot weather is fine. Cant do in cold and wet weather.
I'll do a powdercoated undented and coated tank for your tank and 125. Each do their shipping.
Remember, the undented tank is not really dent free, its got small dents in it from rolling out old dents, some blemished are left behind, and its been POR15'ed inside when it had a huge hole cut in it. AKA, great POR job, and its been powdercoated outside. I have a nice black one and a great red one (94 and several year red, vermillon red)
Cool.
