Thanks again everyone for the comments.  There is a writeup that i had put in the wiki.  Now that was wrote before i did my front tire and i found a few tricks that seemed to make things go alot faster on the second wheel. You all know the story it takes you 6 hours the first time and 25 mins the second and 10 the time after that.  So i will be making a few changes to the write up in the next week or so but for the most part its a very good starter for anyone that wants to do this to there rims.

Ok well i went and got the tires mounted andeverything today and put back on the bike.  160/60-17 rear 120/60-17 front.  First off I would like to state for the record "I dont recommend putting a shinko raven 160/60-17 on this bike".  It was very very very tight.  I got it all in and aligned but for this style tire 150 is the widest i would go.  I had to space out the sprocket 1/8 of an inch and bend the heck out of the brake torque arm.  The pics arent the best but i cant take the bike outside to get good pics.  With this tire setup and a katana rear shock center stand is pretty much useless now.  So i will be pulling it off one of these days too.

did you space out the front sprocket also, or did you find a reference online that stated 1/8" out of alignment was ok ?

i wonder about that part. there are likely 100,000 bikes going down the road with the rear wheel mis-aligned... :)

tt_four: "and believe me, BMW motorcycles are 50% metal, rubber and plastic, and 50% useless

i havent spaced out the front sprocket yet.  i have to figure out how to do that still.

Looks great man  :thumb:

I never spaced my front sprocket out. Turd doesn't mention it specifically, but he does respond to a question posed by gsjack later in the thread. Here's his response.

"Indeed, I did forget to mention sprocket alignment.  I only moved the rear sprocket outward just over 1/16", and I did not move the front sprocket at all.  The chainline on this bike is approaching 2 feet long.  I honestly believe that there will be no adverse effects from the chainline changing 3/32" over 2 feet.  Never-the-less, I will be keeping an eye on chain/sprocket wear."

You did have to shim yours out further than that though.
