Anyone ever put an oil cooler on a GS that didn't have one?

I am nto sure that any actually came with one, but I feel really ancy driving my gs around not knowing how hot it is and not haveing anyway to cool it besides air...maybe it's just me.  /shrug but I am a car guy mostly.

What are your collective thoughts?  Am I just being paranoid?

I'm assuming you have an E. The F models have an oil cooler because the faring allows less air to get around the engine, but people on the board have put F farings on E bikes without the oil cooler and have been fine. You're being paranoid. Your head temperature will go over 300 degrees F on a hot day, but the GS can take it, don't worry. Just make sure that you check your oil more often when it is really hot out because you will burn a bit more...

Yeah I am paranoid.  I just realized that this morning when the first thing I was thinking about was an oil cooler for my bike....   :)

I've not done it, but I think when I finally get around to putting a new motor in the gs, I'm getting one w/ the cooler.  I've never really had many problems with it overheating.  However, when I try to go into the city (washington dc) traffic comes to a dead stop.  That, paired with all the heat from the roads (because everybody else is at a dead stop) my bike would get pretty hot.  I figure if I can keep the bike a bit cooler on the ride into the city, then I'll hopefully be able to make it a bit farther inside before the heat becomes a problem......
No GS yet......waiting for friend to give it back......

The whole oil-cooler/fairing debate is open to debate. Personaly I think it serves little purpose on the F other than to add some cosmetic appeal to what is essentially an old bike. There are plenty of GSEs running around Europe that were sold brand new with a factory fitted 3/4 fairing made by TCP in Spain very similar to the OEM one fitted to the F. Non of them had a cooler fitted. I have owned and run 3 of them without any issues, even on the hotest days and I have yet to hear of anyone who actually has  :dunno_black:

Arizona may be another thing, but here in the Northeast it takes forever for the bike to warm up and an oil cooler would make it take even longer!  If I rode in a hot climate and got stuck in traffic a lot it may make sense to install an oil cooler, (you can do it to any air-cooled MC engine) but I'd install a fan as well so it would actually be able to do some good.  Otherwise I agree with the others, nothing but extra weight.

Thanks for the input, sometimes my brain starts a rolling and the rest of me is just there for the ride.
