Tank Fuel C*ck question

I have a 94 GS. I took the tank off this winter to clean it out. In the process I had to remove the tank fuel chicken. It sat dry for 3+ months over the winter. When I put her back together yesterday I noticed that the fuel chicken was leaking from the turn dial...how freaking disappointing.
Anyways, So I have a few options. Buy a new one $70+ i believe, get one off ebay ~$35 i think but I am not sure how good of  a part it is and finally, a buddy said to soak it in gas for a while and then give it a try. Anyone got some words of wisdom or recommendations? Sites with a cheaper part price would be appreciated.

Anyone see a problem with this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/97-02-GS500-PETCOCK_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ72Q3a1205Q7c66Q3a2Q7c65Q3a12Q7c39Q3a1Q7c240Q3a1318Q7c301Q3a1Q7c293Q3a1Q7c294Q3a50QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem360139430856QQitemZ360139430856QQptZMotorcyclesQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

Thanks guys. The weather here is breaking so I want to get her going asap!!

I think BikeBandit.com or Apache Powersports  has them for $51 new.  I could be mistaken

Take it apart and fix that O ring.
Buddha do for you lets say $10. O rings and labor included.

dang is that all it is? I noticed that it looked like a simple clip I could pop off. Can I find that O ring at any hardware store or is it something special? I will have to look at it a little closer.

Thanks guys!

The Buddha

Auto parts, usually hardware store O rings are for standing up to water, not gasoline.
Cool.

sweet! I just popped it off. Looks like I should be all fixed up as soon as I get to the store. Is the larger O ring that sits between the tank and the switch mount plate available at an auto parts as well? Thanks man!

The O-ring is $3.02 at BikeBandit.com  Part # 499428-001  You can get one at an auto parts or hardware store, but make sure it's neoprene, not regular synthetic rubber like the ones for plumbing.  While you're in there, clean the filter gauze and inspect it for holes.  If it has holes or won't come clean, replace it.  It's $5.17  Part #1480858-001

i stopped and picked up some replacement O rings for the toggleswitch. I am not super pleased with the fit, I am going to see if I can find a better match tomorrow.

sledge

Neoprene?
Neoprene is the WORST choice you could make, its totally unsuitable for use with Petroleum. Buna-Nitrile, known as Buna-N is the prefered material.

The Buddha

Buna-N is what autoparts ones are, but good call sledge.
Cool.

Buddha. You Rock. I picked up a variety pack at Pep Boys of fuel grade O rings. I was pretty sure the ones I bought were not gonna work. It was the same diameter but a thinner ring overall. Anyways. I threw it in there anyways, if it didnt work I was just gonna get a whole assembly off ebay for $35. I could not believe my eyes when it didnt leak at all. She fired right up. I took my first cruise around the neighborhood today. 2 weeks and I have my MSF course. Thanks to everyone for their links and suggestiongs. I must admit, I have been going back to check pretty often for a leak, the last thing I want is 2 gallons of gas on my floor.  2 hrs and still no leak.

On a side note, NAPA and Autozone has ZERO fuel grade O rings.
