It is way inside the engine and not really a component that you could replace with somethings else. It isn't like a car, I doubt any other part would fit. What's wrong with it? From what I read here, when the stator fails, it is likely to take something else with it... Are you sure it is the alternator itself and not some other component of your charging system?

yep it's the alternator .. actualy the rotor is the one that is broken ..
it can be replace with another alternator (generator) from another gs500 .. but they are preaty damn hard to find  :icon_sad:

Hi linksuleto,

Wait a minute... need more info here to help you.
First, the GS500 does not have what is referred to as an "alternator." That's a car term.
These engines have a stator, with two separate parts -- the rotor in the center and the stator coils which are the circle around the rotor. The stator coils are wrapped in all kinds of plastic insulating materials and have wires coming out that connect to the rest of the electrical system wiring.
So you need the rotor in the center?
Did yours actually come apart and break? That is unusual.
Or do you need the stator coil assembly that is located around the rotor?
If you need a stator coil, I have a friend who has a brand new aftermarket Electrosport replacement that he'd sell. He ordered it and didn't need it for his bike.
It is a model number ESG010 Electrosport replacement stator.

Details:
This heavy duty stator can be used as a higher output replacement for the OE stator. Output is about 20% more than the OE stator provides. This new stator is built with the highest grade lamination materials and the copper windings are triple insulated for maximum reliability. To ease installation we supply it with extra connectors and wire sleeving. It is a very cost-effective replacement unit for when the OE stator failed, and it comes with a full one year warranty.

Detailed Technical Information:
Resistance between the YELLOW leads: 0.9-1.3 Ω.
Between any YELLOW lead and GROUND: Open Circuit (OL on display)
Outside Diameter: 93mm
Inside Diameter: 35mm
Thickness: 18mm

Web page:
http://www.electrosport.com/products/product-detail-410.php
It fits 1989-2006 GS500s.
They sell for $119 new plus shipping and I know he will give a good deal on it because he couldn't return it once he'd ordered it.
Let me know if you are interested.

Goats ... goats ...
OK look for sliding hammer.
Then I could sell you my rotor, I have 20-30 of them laying about.
I'd settle for finding 1 ... how's 25 and shipping. 35 shipped.
Cool.
