Clutch cable broke yesterday, had to ride the last 40 miles with no clutch.  Called all over town and can't find a clutch cable, so I ordered one on bikebandit.  Now I can't ride until it comes, waaaaaaahhh!  Is it the same where you live where motorcycle dealerships don't even carry the most basic parts like a dang clutch cable?  I'll bet they have plenty of $350 helmets, though!

I just got brake caliper seals for my GS. It took the dealer a week to get them. Before that, I have had it take a few days to get an oil filter and the better part of a week to get valve shims. It drives me nuts. I wish there were a place I could go that would just have parts in stock so I could grab what I need and keep working. I wonder what happens to people who actually pay to have their bikes worked on by dealers. Do they also have to wait a week to get their bike back or is there some alternate parts stash the service guys draw from...

Understand your frustration, but I imagine the cost of keeping those parts for all the different bikes is high, so they have to charge to cover that. Now someone (who is not in a hurry for the part) sees they can get it cheaper online.....now the dealers turnover drops, cost of keeping stock exceeds profit made, so not worth it to stock parts.

In Australia, it is usually a 1-2 day wait on OEM parts from the dealer. But it takes a few weeks if they don't have parts in AUS due to them selling them all.

Ouch, that is a long time to wait, although it does sound like good justification for a "backup GS." If you have two running bikes and one dies, you can just ride the other while waiting for parts...
