Starter Switch Electrical question

I was replacing my ignition/start switch today and I ran into a problem. I replaced the switch fine but the bike would not start. The wires were fine as I switched the wires and make the start button activate the headlight. I then narrowed it down to the other wire coming out of the switch. It was going into a splitter and just would not work. To fix the problem I disconnected the splitter and plugged the wire directly into the other one. Bike starts and runs fine. My question is, does anyone know what the splitter does, or what the other wire in the splitter does? The bike runs fine without it connected, but I assume it must do something. Thanks.

What colour wires are we talking about? Photo?

I will check again tomorrow and try to take a pic as it is night time now here, but as I recall it was a white and yellow wire, also going into two white/yellow wires.

The splitter should go to your kill switch and should be Orange with a White tracer.  The other side of the kill switch should be Orange with a Black tracer.  It will cost you extra if I have to get my lazy ass off the couch and go see where the other start switch wire Orange with White Tracer goes.

By the way, this is for an 04 model, your colors are prob. different but the splitter still should go to the kill switch.

Mine is a 94. I think the wire was actually green/yellow come to thing of it. The splitter/wire in question that I am no longer using is on the bike/engine side and not the splitter/wires coming from the switch itself. Thanks for your help.

Is it going towards your sidestand because if so then it could be your sidestand kill switch.
