engine paint

so last summer a friend of mine laid my bike down and I repainted the fairings that when I did the custom paint. anyways I'm wanting to get the engine looking good again. I don't want to spend a couple hundred on new covers but was wondering where I could find the engine paint to match? or if anyone has ever repainted the whole engine how much work that is? the stator cover is scratched up pretty good so I need to sand it smooth any one know where I can get the matching paint? dealer told me to take it to a parts store and find something that matches well thats like trying to catch a fly in your hand. so yea.....
