carbs flooding bad

everytime I start the bike gas pours out of my carbs.  its flowing out so fast I can't seem to pinpoint where its coming from exactly.  I took them off cleaned them thoroughly, put them back on and its still doing it.  Any help would be appreicated so much.

It sounds like your floats are set too high.  Is it coming from the airbox?

I agree, your float heights are way high. It is easy to set them though, so just look it up here with search and make sure and use the vinyl tubing method. There are a couple of good posts with pictures and everything that shouldn't be hard to find. If you can't get the float heights to change, you might have bad float needles. Refer to the service manual for determining if your float needles are good or not...

mine is  blows smoke from air box holes and while i was checking my carb piston i see fire in the carb my carb banging cool >:(

still searching for the answer :(

Check the vent tube on your carbs. If it just happened all of a sudden something could have plugged it up and it would explain both of them leaking at the same time.

Fixed that problem.  Now the bike is smoking at idle.  The bike is a stock 89.  How many turns out would the mixture screws be.  They were at 1 and a quarter out.

Yea!  A newbie who fixes his own problems fast, Bravo!

1 and 1/4 turns out is correct for the pilot screw of the stock 1989 United Kingdom model.  US models have brass plugs in them but most people drill them out so they can screw with them.  From 1989-2000 the UK and US models had the same 33mm carbs, so it's correct.

So if you have persistent smoke, you either have a dirty air filter, engine wear, or maybe someone put a lot of oil in the gas to protect the tank, or thought it was a 2-stroke?  If it smokes for a minute then stops, especially if it hasn't been running in some time or if it's cold, don't worry about it, it's normal.
