My engine blew, it makes a horrible knocking noise when i turn it on. It appers to be the result of low oil.
I would like to buy an engine and do a swap. I think any 2000+ enigne will fit. I live in the DC area. Let me know thanks.
I would like to fix the bike instead of having to buy a new bike.
I've tried ebay and craiglist but nothing promising and bike junkyards are asking way tooo much.

If you factor in shipping, the junk yards are usually cheaper?  How much are they asking?

I got a 2006, engine, in working condition, but makes minor minor noise. I am in canada. Will probably be 75 -100 in shipping. I am asking 400$

What do you mean by "minor noise"?  :icon_question:

It's worth actually going to junkyards and looking around yourself. No offense to scrapyard workers, but a lot of them talk **** on the phone. I had this problem too, on a long journey I discovered an oil leak too late, and my engine began to sound as though a big metal ball was flying around inside, which I'm guessing is the noise you can hear. Anyway my magneto was annihilated, I looked around at local scrapyards and found a scrappy looking engine. I went to the office there and acted like I was a bike expert and told him I'd give him £100 for it to use as parts. He willingly agreed. The engine was actually in good nick inside as an oil flush showed, but looked knackered on the outside. I was able to mix and match parts from that engine and my engine. So my advice is look around yourself, and act like you know what you're doing ;). Usually if you're willing to pick up the part yourself, the scrapyard will give it to you much cheaper.
Good luck, and as we will both have learnt, keep checking your oil level! :).

Chris.

I have several good running engines that I can sell you.   Various mileage, various condition, $300-$500.  I live just west of Chicago.  Where are you located?

Any year engine should bolt in... Carbs etc changed (2001 ish..) and so did the ignition pickup ...Oil cooler lines on the F..so another dif...

What actual year is the GS?

Fedex ground will ship an engine ( up to 150 pounds -gs engine is 135 ish ...so packed well  in a sturdy box they come in under 150 )

Correct on what is quoted above.  One engine is 2000 something, it is silver in color, the other two are black and are from the 90's.  Am not sure of exact years.  Is there a way of checking off of the vin# stamped on the motor?
