Q.  And where do all those taxes go?

A.

Details here.

This is why I hated to write a check this week.  We owed quite a bit due to raises and income without withholding.  If more of it went to people who need help rather than multinational defense contractors, I'd be happier.
TG you gotta admit tho alot of this spending was not necessary. FROM BOTH sides of the political fence. military support is needed tho until the military is no longer needed. cant be causght with our pants down. i swear i think we need to eb back on teh gold standard. and/or the line item veto. as well. casue of this run amok spending currently, and in the past. needs to stop. you know that as well as i do. and anyone with half a brain as well

We get taxed every pay, our employer has to set it aside and send it to the tax office. But if you earn more that your employer set aside you will need to pay them money.

We don't need to spend as much on "defense" as the COMBINED total of the next ten largest nations in order to be prepared.  We did not even need to spend that much in the Cold War.  The fearmongers and warmongers have sold us a bill of goods about what is needed to "defend" our country (as if that is what the Dept. of Defense has been used for in the last sixty years).   We can do with MUCH less, and we should be spending at least some of that money on mass transit, basic research, education, health care, and a host of other things that actually benefit the taxpaying citizens of this country.

If we only defended our country and honored our treaties (as required by the constitution), we would not be occupying Iraq nor Afghanistan.  We will leave both countries eventually, and the current problems will remain, as they have for thousands of years.  How many more Americans and UN forces will have to die before we come to our senses?

But that's another thread.   :thumb:

I dont hate taxes themselves as much as freaking doing the damn taxes.
You need to be able to on an on going basis get that tax deducted/added to your paycheck. No reason you need to file a bloody return if you're a salaried employee. All this craapola, you just fill in on an ongoing basis. Like you buy a house, you automatically get that 8K credited and deducted from your taxes ... Sorta like opening a tab with the IRS, except this tab needs to be 0 ... all your life events, and tax events are to be checked in/checked out.
Cool.

I'm not anti-tax in and of itself, but I don't like how my tax dollars are spent (for the most part).  I've got no problem with someone needing help to get through a tough time, and someone's gotta pay for the roads.  Unfortunately, we also have to pay for failing industries, politicians' pet projects, and other necessities.

I'm actually really glad we moved to Nebraska, where governors aren't indicted and the budget is always balanced.  It's amazing how your perspective on paying taxes changes when you know they're being spent responsibly.  Maybe Big Guvment should give it a try.
