i'm going to ask for help on here first before i get frustrated and start breaking things. i'm tryin to get my signals off the bike but i can't figure out how to get the wire/bulb holder loose from the stalk (without cutting the wire). i've read the write-up about shortening the stalks but it isn't very detailed about this step

"Once the bulb holder is free the stalk can be separated from the signal housing by pulling them apart.  Again, it may take some effort to get them apart.  Pull the wire through and you have successfully removed the stalk."

how exactly do you "pull the wire through" when one end is connected to the bulb holder and the other is in the mass of wires in the headlight housing?

so are you trying to get the signals off the bike and replace them or just cut them down so they look less retarded?  If you're just removing them, then all you have to do is unscrew the bolts and pull the male from the female wire connectors and you're done.

I tried the same think on my 2002 and couldn't figure it out. It seemed like it was just one solid piece to me.

I think the year model in the write up had different type of signal stalk than my 2002.

i'm removing the entire mount bracket for the headlight and signals, i'm still going to use the stock signals (for now) but need to remove them from this bracket first.the only way i see doing this is disconnecting wires from bulb housing, pulling everything apart, and then connecting wires back to bulb housing when im putting them back on but one wire is way up in the bulb housing and looks like a real pain to re-connect. thats what i'm trying to avoid.

what year is your bike?

You should be able to unscrew a nut and take the whole signal stalk off...  Can you put a pic up?

Canonball

bike is a 93, I can take the nut off but the wires still hold the bulb housing on with the stalk. When I get home from work to ight I'll try to get some pics up......

isnt there a clip inside the light housing that you have to take off to get the light and everything off the stalk its self?  that is if i remember right its been a while since i looked at that mod and now i cant find it.  whats the link.

yeah, open up the headlight and fine the wires from the turn signals.  Then disconnect the male from the female connectors and pull the stalk away from the bike.

i had the same problem the other day cannon, mine's a '93 aswell, and the only way i can think of doing it is cutting the wires near the harness and putting a couple of connectors on to join it back up....
