I took her to a big empty parking lot and she got on and took off right away, no tip overs or anything.  I am really impressed, she seems like a natural. The only thing she did wrong is that she was ridding the clutch for the first couple laps until I told her to leave it engaged.  Now I just have to get her shifting and doing some inclined start offs.  I will try to get a couple pics today.

I actually rode the GS for the first time to yesterday.  I was impressed with the power, I did not think it would have that much umph.  The only problem with it is that it falls on its face for a couple seconds when your starting out slow and you give it full throttle?  The carbs are clean and i have fresh gas in it.   The longer we rode it the better it seemed to get, but something is still off?

I am all most positive that it is a fuel delivery issue, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Hawk

did you make sure to warm the bike up completely before attempting to ride it? also what RPM range are you taking off from? GS picks up best from around 3000-4000RPMs. anything below that and it will probably bog a little.
if that all is no help than you may have some other issues like: to big/small jets (to rich/lean), but if it was the case then you would also notice a flat spot elsewhere.

good luck and have fun :)

remember to gear up properly!! :thumb:  (even if you ride in the parking lot) - I saw a picture (here in GStwins) of a guy whose toe nail was taken off by the side stand, only because he did not think it was necessary to put his boots on while doing some maintenance!!

cheers

Yes,

ATGATT I seperated my shoulder on a five mile ride from church to home. Got hit with softball size debris in the shoulder jacket with armor prevented me from having a more devastating injury!

But, practicing in the parking lot is a great way to start out. Work on figure 8's , u-turns between parking spots, and emergency braking!

Glad to have another woman rider! YAY!

Yea, girls / women on bikes is hot... :icon_twisted:

But anyway.  Yes there is something definitely wrong.  If you just ease on the throttle when your rolling off a stop it behaves fairly good, you have about a 50 / 50 chance of it not wanting to stall.  But if you roll off a stop and twist it right up it completely falls on its face every time.  I am going to rip down the carbs again this weekend, maybe there was still some crap in my lines but I doubt it, the tank is spotless.  I have a pressure tester and I think I am going to start with the vacuum crossover and see if that is leaking somewhere.  I'm sure it is nothing to serious, I will figure it out.

Good point on the safety gear.  She rode great on Friday, I couldn't believe it really.  Then on Saturday she went down good.  She got to hard on the rear brake and low-sided it in a corner.  She had on ridding boots, gloves, helmet and an armored jacket but she still got banged up a little.  Mainly road rash about 2" wide by 6" long right above the hip.  Not very deep but road rash is always painful.

More importantly the bike (Just Kidding lol).  But the bike took the hit pretty well.  The crash bars on the motor mount did their job, it got bent in against the motor and lost some paint.  The exhaust took the brunt of it,  the stocker is pretty fat and that shinny cover got torn up good.  The bars are actually off a jet ski (Star Bars) and they were not phased, go figure they are going to eventually get replaced anyway.  The mirror was also banged up pretty good, but all in all, not bad.  I purposely left off the rear plastics while she is learning and no paint on the tank or front fender got touched.  So nothing but a couple $20 - $30 dollar parts and she got right back on after the shakes subsided and rode for another half hour.

So moral of the story, She definitely learned something, and better in a parking lot then on the road.  And now she definitely realizes why she has a heavy / hot armored jacket.  So in a way I am glad she went down and learned just how quickly things can go bad on a bike, and it wasn't that hard of a lesson, nothing $60 and half a tube of Neosporin can't fix...   :thumb:

In vietnam it is illegal to ride a bike or scooter if you're a girl and well ... you're too ... well small ... That was proposed and a whole bunch of skinny flat chicks protested ... or somehting like that.
Except that case, chicks on bikes are hot ...

Unless they are super freaking fat and riding a blinged out, slammed hayabusa ... man I thought this busa had an extra set of tars on either side in the middle ... turned out this black chicks ass cheeks were that big, they were competing with the fat ass rear tar. Yea the bike was slammed to the ground, I was thinking she's drag the suspension linkage on the road.

Cool.

Are you sure we aren't talking 'bout the same chick? I didn't think you could be to big for a 'busa but DAYUM I felt bad for that bike! She was Rican though had boricua on the side and everything! Worse part she had Whale Tale from the thong. I didn't know they made WIDE LOAD banners into thongs but guess you'd need that much material! I'd say she is the one person I've seen that doesn't need armor it is built in she falls off and just goes bouncing down the road. Just hope she don't hit your car cause it'd total it!

Okay okay wow how did I get on that rant? ahhh bthe Buudha drags me there! Glad the armor protected your wife! My best friend called me the Carbon Fiber Mummy because of all of the gear until two things. Three weeks ago he hit a deer and then last week my incident! Sometimes, you have to experience it to believe it

Just a thought here but where I work the motorcycle riders use fire hose to wrap everything that may hit the ground and wrap it in duct tape, remove mirrors and blinkers to train .  Oh yea teach her the blessedness of the front brake and it's ability to stop on a dime.  Good luck.  Wanna see something stupid, read the North Cariolina Motorcycle handbook for testing.

He has a driveability issue and you guys are discussing the negative effects of fat chicks on a 400 lb. bike.  That's why I like you!

The engine is at full temp and it falls on its face if you roll the throttle from a stoplight.  I'd start with 1, did you store it all winter with gas in the carbs with no stabilizer in the fuel?  2, dirty air filter.  3, old plugs.  4, birds built a nest in the exhaust system.
