It's pretty hard to understand what you're trying to do.  Are you charging a 9V battery, a 7.2V battery, or a motorcycle battery?  More info might get a response or two.... :thumb:

You will want a resistor in series with your battery so that charging current will be limited.  What is the Ah rating on the battery?

Hey man, I do RC as well. Are you charging a NiCad or a NiMH? Is this for a starter. You should just hit up Tower hobbies and get a charger for RC stuff. A constant current at 7.2 volts might not be your best option. Most charging units charge on a curve and have peak sensing circuits to ensure a complete charge. I use one charger for my transceiver batteries, receiver battery pack, and the POS EZ-Start battery. I'm into the nitro rigs so I don't mess with Lipos very often. PM me is you ever want any help with RC.  :D
