The weather is pretty good here in the UK for the time of year and it always brings the jokers out. There are two GS5s on ebay right now worthy of mention..........First up we have this unique example. Unique in the fact that the owner claims it easily does 100mpg. I should email him and ask him the secret, maybe he has taken a plug out and its only running on one pot  £500 is a fair price for its age/miles and a long MOT..........but the bids arent exactly flooding in despite the amazingingly low fuel consumption.

Next up is this one. The owner cant scrape through the test and is giving up L-plate biking but he seems to think that his far from original 19 yr old GS5 "Sport"??? with 4 months MOT is worth £1100 (thats about $1600).....Dream on Sonny!.....Given that the one above is half the age, half the price and hasnt had a single bid on it, 1100 quid is an outstanding display of hope! and coincidently it also works out at £100 for each of its previous 11 owners.

As much as I think I like the UK, I think the MOT would drive me nutty if I were to live there.

O think we call it inspection.
In communifornia they actually hit you pretty heftily for not registering the bike year over year unless you send them 10 bucks or maybe its more now, to "non operational" it.

In North Communilina and prolly south communilina as well they will hit you with pretty hefty fines for not turning in the plates if you skip paying your insurance.

In neighboring Vaginia they will have to have proof that you sold the vehicle by getting some sorta notorised crap from your buyer if you fail to do certain things at the sale.

So, welcome to the Union of socialist states of america USSA for short, O intergalactic visitor, and no Obama didn't invent the socialism, its been in force for many many years and McCain will not have done anything different. Except give 800 billion to the bank and not the paltry 757 billion.

Cool.

Yes all these insurance requirements and hefty fines and yet 3 out of the 4 accidents I've been in have been uninsured drivers. All of them not my fault usually them rear ending me. One of them even backed into my truck while in the drive through at In-and-Out, fancy new BMW suv and surprise surprise no insurance.

Did you ask them if they were members of the politburo ... AKA, Illegal ...

Tax the F*(kers, and the rest can live on welfare ... 2 separate classes, might as well propery build a fortress complete with gun turrets, tax the living daylights out of the workers and the lucky few will hide in the fortress, and soot at any peasant that dares to approach the walls of the fortress.

BTW in NC the uninsured coverage is so damn high just due to that.

I am waiting for the day i get hit by an uninsured driver.  In AZ we got all the day laboring illegals driving shaZam! around with stolen plates.  It's awesome, as a matter of fact I think I will go put my uninsured insurance up a to the maximum.

I think it is $15 now, but there is no inspection, ever. How awesome is that? You can register your bike and modify it however you like and no one ever looks at it ever...

Yes in Florida we are also the wonderful "no fault" state. But, amazingly enough my one accident where I hit someone I "WAS AT FAULT" WTF when everyone else hit me I still had to pay for it now I do it and I still gotta pay their's too. I mean I understand I was the one at fault on this accident but my other accidents the other person was clearly at fault and their insurance didn't pay mine did. I just don't understand how it can be implemented at the law's discreation making it an at fault state when they want.

We also have to carry a minimum PIP/ and uninsured motorist. But, the news said a couple of months ago 1 out of 4 cars on I-4 was uninsured and expected to go up as the economy goes down. But, when you drop insurance that don't actively go for your plates only way they find out is if your pulled over or are in a wreck then they will take the plates.

I dunno nothing anymore makes sense as far as laws and taxes anymore.

Ohio is the exact opposite.  My insurance lapsed when I broke my hand and wasn't driving (the car was being stored) and within a week and a half I had a letter from the state saying I was selected for a "random" insurance check and needed to provide proof of insurance.  I had to end up going to court because a notarized letter that it was being stored wasn't acceptable to the insurance nazi's!

The scary thing about no MOTs/Inspections means that  no-one will ever tell bike owners who genuinely dont have a clue,.......and these people do exist...... when their tyres are worn, when their brakes arent up to scratch, when their forks and shocks are leaking, when their wheel and headstock bearings are shot, when their lights dont work , when bits are going to fall off  etc ect etc.......yeah its a pain in the arse but at the same time its a good thing....they DO prevent accidents and save lives.

This is America though. We don't have socialized healthcare, what does the government care if you get hurt doing something stupid? There are plenty of places where you don't have to have turn signals or helmets or even front brakes! I've seen a fair share of guys on custom bikes cruising down the road on bikes with no rear suspension. You can even have one of these if you want to:

No, that primary drive isn't missing a cover, it is supposed to be like that! If you look in the lower left hand corner of the picture, you'll see the beginning of the foot peg. You can actually ride a bike with an exposed, chain driven primary drive that puts a sprocket spinning very quickly right next to the foot peg if you want to and no one will care. You could drive that to the DMV and show it to them and they'd just go "yup, that's legal, here's your registration" in all 50 states as far as I know. Cars usually aren't much different. I got my car "inspected" here in California not that long ago and do you know what they checked? They made sure I had a gas cap and seat belts, then checked my emissions. That's it. No test of lighting system, brakes, tires or anything at all like that. Here is Los Angeles the cost of living is high and there are many people just barely making enough money to live and you wouldn't believe the things I see on the road.

Here in the land of nude hampsters we have a safety inspection and it is somewhat difficult. In theory body holes, dead shocks, worn brakes, etc, etc will fail. And emissions, too.

I just heard that MOT is worse.
