UPDATE: I am lazy. I haven't re-jetted yet, mostly due to time. I went for a ride today. 70F out, a full tank of premium and SeaFoam. It keeps getting better, to the point where I don't want to pull the carbs to re-jet. Stilll a little flat/skipping at cracked throttle, but lots better. I think the SeaFoam is helping. I will probably re-jet later, but see how this goes first. But I did notice a difference between cylinder exhaust temps today with an IR gun. Cooling off it was 350 and 290F. So there is a mixture imbalance at low power output. ( I had a low speed approach for 1/2 mile until  I parked)

dont waste your money on premium gas the gs is a low compression engine and doesnt need premium

My thought was that as I am trying to unvarnish the carbs in my own lazy way, (and ride) is that often the higher octane gasoline  has some slightly more volatile liquids which might help clean out the pilots. And is certainly cheaper than SeaFoam. So it was worth the $.20-30 at the pump when I topped up.

ok or you could spend 20 mins and just clean them and be done with it.

So I finally took apart the carbs. They had never been apart (it is a 1992). One partly plugged pilot (on the side with the cold EGT). I swapped them for 40s. THe dealer had no O rings or 125 main jets on hand. It definitely runs better, but I messed with the choke cable I think, as it feels like it hangs a little. Or is totally stuck. And it seems rich, but definitely pulls in the 1/4 throttle range now. In all about 3-1/2 hours. I could definitely do it in less time next time. A bit the time was fiddling with fuel line plumbing for the new filter.  Did I mention I hate the airbox?
