question about fuel tank fitment

Basically my tank has just died on me. Its a 1991 and has corroded inside out and is leaking guel. Not worth repairing. Does anyone know what years the tanks are the same or if they have actually been changed. Because the newer I can get it the better.

IIRC:

89-99 are the same

2000-up are bigger tanks, but will fit the frame.

Unless I misremember and the actual change was at 2001...

Seat fitment may be odd with old seat and newer tank, but has been done successfully.

Old tail plastics with new tank is an issue too.

Oh wait ... you're looking for a solution ... sorry ... I'd weld yours shut and coat inside it. The powdercoat the outside of it.

Ok I've been looking for a decent tank for 89 to 2000... only decent ones are 2001+... how possible is this to fit the newer tank with the existing plastics and seat?? Or would I need to get a new seat and plastics also.. and has the frame been changed or has the seat and plastics been designed around the existing frame and rear light set up etc etc what I mean by frame is where the original seat 'clips' in...

I have a dent free tank off a '93 that I intend to sell. It has zero leaks and never had any. I did coat the inside of the tank with POR-15, so it will never ever rust.

However, if you would prefer to use a tank off a >2001, that will work as well. You will not need a new seat or tail plastics. The only drawback is that the front of the tail plastics won't have the receiving rubber groomets, so the ends will be a bit lose.
