Fork Brace?

Can the GS be run without a Fork Brace (ala Street-Trackers or Dirt-Trackers) on the street or would normal riding around cause the forks to bend?
What about disadvantages to running without a front fender?
(working on a Cafe-Racer/Street-Tracker look to the GS...)

Low speed I think its OK. Someone told me at high speeds its miserable wihtout it. Would you notice on dirt??? Dont know..
