OIL Cooler retrofit

Hello, all. I've searched the archives but can't seem to find a definitive answer. I bought an oil cooler, lines, brackets, and pan from an '05 with the intention of bolting it on to my (naked) '01.  Everything fits perfectly, as you'd expect-- only had to drill one hole for mounting and relocate the horn. And it looks sweet! But will it work without modifing the '01 motor-- can I just bolt on the oil pan and run it?  Some threads indicate that there were internal changes to the oiling system or cases.  To me it looks like it should work fine, but with the cooler being fed from the same galley that feeds the head and the return at the back of the pan I'm concerned that there might be a pressure drop to the head. Has anyone done this?  I think I might have jumped the gun here and I don't want to trash my freshly rebuilt motor!  Thanks in advance for any input.

First off... Why are you putting an oil cooler on it? Its not needed.

Because it seemed to be an easy retrofit, adds oil capacity, and the bike is run in a hot climate. I'm a believer in cool oil.

I am near about sure the 04+GS motor is feeding the oil to the cooler out of the main oil galley, aka - pressure drop without a check valve.
You may want to do a remote filter and a bypass adapter to run a cooler if you  have to, else like scott_pa_gs says, naked bike get plenty of air, it wont burn and die.
Cool.

So I take it you're saying it ain't gonna work?  No check valve, no internal plumbing?  Gall durn it, I guess it'll be on EBay...  Thanks for the responses.

Yeah, I think if you have a hot climate hot enough to cause problems with a naked GS, you're going to have problems with the rider too. My GS with 89,000 miles has spent its whole life in Southern California where it gets well over 100 every summer and it has no problems. I don't know about you, but when it starts getting hot enough that riding fast makes me heat up instead of cooling down, I'm not super happy...

It is not a direct retrofit. There is addition piping cast into the 04+ cases. As well as a restrictor to divert oil to the head and cooler. Bob Broussard sent me pics regarding this several years ago when I was toying with the GSXR head swap.
Common sense in not very common.

Thanks for the help, everyone. I took it off. I should have researched it more completely before I jumped in. I paid $80 for all the parts... anyone need a mint cooler/lines/brackets/oilpan?
