Hello all,
I started up my GS last night for the first time since February (it's been taken apart replacing parts damaged by a po's drop).
I'm still unable to get the clutch to disengage, so i had it in neutral up on the center stand and the clutch switch is shorted.
It ran very well while it was warming up and I didn't have to use the choke to get it running. After about 4 minutes of running, I started playing with the idle screw and pulling the throttle. All of a sudden the revs increased rapidly so I shut it off immediately and backed out the idle screw (i hadn't turned it in very far). I restarted the engine and got a HUGE backfire that was absolutely terrifying (in east atlanta).
So from what I've read, the backfire issue may be resolved by a valve clearance check.  What's the word on the east coast valve kit? Who do I need to speak with to get in line?

Secondly, the fuel line for the reserve spout on the petcock was too short no matter how i tried to route it so I ran the main line from the reserve nipple to the reserve nipple on the fuel selector (because apparently that's where prime runs from). Where can I get more of this line and what size/type is it? Are there supposed to be hose clamps on the gas tank petcock?

Even after all of this I still don't have a title, but now that it's running at least i can get a bit more if i sell it.

Thanks,
Max

The east coast kit is gone.  It was last in the hands of Eric Ryan Wiltse.  You can find him on Facebook, or you can call his dad.  Neither one will get you anywhere, but you can try.

I got some of this tubing for my fuel lines.  I haven't had a chance to test it yet since I still don't have a good head on the engine, but I don't forsee any problems with it.

If you want a few feet of it, you can send me a few bucks for shipping and I'll mail it to you.

The fuel lines are like 7mm fuel hose which is a smidge (technical term) larger than 1/4" id fuel line.  You can get 1/4" just about anywhere that does carburated engines, and it works just fine.  I got mine from my mc shop, but there was an ACE hardware with a small engine repair shop that would have sold me some too.  Be careful if you get it from a auto shop though because most cars have high pressure fuel line which is thicker and might not fit.  A hair dryer helps to get the hose over the nipple (and to get it off the nipple if you ever need to...)

If you can get a hold of one of those blade thickness gauges that goes down far enough you can check the valves, as you'd only really need the kit if you actually needed to change the valves.  You can pick a guage for like $5-10 (although it'll probably be an SAE not metric, but it'll tell you enough)
