Hi,
I have a problem with my helmet.  After maybe about 30-45 mins of riding, I had this sore spot on the top of my head, only on the right side.  Do you guys have any good way of removing some foam from some sections of the inner shell?  I think I can take the internal lining off without problems.  Thx.

I doubt anyone will recomend altering a helmet like that.
Is it posible to retutn it, for a larger size?
If it is new it may not be broken in and may just need more time.

Do not modify the foam  :nono:

Are you getting a headache also?  The helmet should not hit any pressure points and that is the reason you must try them on in the store and keep them on for a while.

Hopefully you can return your helmet because you need to find one that fits the shape of your head.  Not all are the same!  Like said in many previous posts, try on as many as possible for a minimum of 15-20 minutes if it feels okay initially (ie - isn't obviously not fitting).  There should be no gaps/big air spaces and the helmet should fit snugly because it does loosen up over time.

It would be safer to alter your head than tamper with the helmet, the advice given above is 100% kosher.

In Cricket the testicular guard, or Box, was introduced in 1874. The helmet was introduced in 1974. Is there a message??

Yes, as they said above.

The helmet is not the wrong SIZE....its the wrong shape. You'll really need to replace it with another brand. Go into a store and try them all on for at least 20 minutes each. That's enough time to see if there are any "hot spots" from fit.

Then again if you have abnormal head, you might not ever find a helmet the right shape.  Sucks to be Igor.

The wife's helmet gave her headaches and sore spots for a while, but it's finally broken in now and she's fine.  People have told me you can accelerate the process by *gently* rubbing the offending spot (on the helmet padding, not the head) with the back of a spoon.  I have never tried this, but I imagine it's akin to extended wearing, and thus faster break-in.

YMMV

I don't know. If the sore spot is only on one side, there may be something afoul with the foam. My HJC Symax fit my head perfectly except for a little red spot on my ample forehead that showed up after 10 or 11 hours of constant use. I figured it fit well enough everywhere else and I don't ride that long but maybe 3 or 4 times a year so I'd live with it. Later, I had the linings out to install some speakers and noticed a definite bump or "nipple" in the foam, right where the helmet had created that little "hot spot". I took a little half round "cheese grater" style file and, carefully, shaped the foam until the little bump was gone. Viola! I don't look like Gorbachev anymore, (look him up!). I can't believe that the bump was intended to be there nor that I degraded the helmets ability to absorb energy in the event of an impact. As always, YMMV.

hmmm, yeah, the point on my head makes it hard to get a good helmet too. :x  i feel your pain brother
