I don't know if its me or the search function but I couldn't find the answer I was looking for.  I need a wiring diagram for both an E model and an F model to compare the wiring for the hand controls.

1.) On the wiki they are broken down to EK, EL, etc.  Anyway we can add in the years those letters corespond to for us illiterate of the model classifications?

2.) Is this the diagram for the F models:

http://wiki.gstwins.com/index.php?n=Main.USEKModel

3.) Is this the diagram for the E models:

They look the same to me! But, I'm no electrician either!

yeah I read somewhere that I need K model diagrams not ek diagrams so that link I posted for F models isn't right.  Does anyone have a wiring diagram for a k4 or k5 model?

found a k4 model diagram here:

Last thing I need to verify is that the wiring didn't change between 04 and other f models?

Thanks,

Nick

So either no one on this forum knows or no one wants to help?

Well I was able to figure out the left hand side controls as none of the wires have changed colors so it was a cut, soldier, and shrink wrap.  However the problem is in the right hand controls.  The E model only has 2 wires for the start switch, but the start switch I have from an F model has 4 wires!

2 of the wires (Orange/White, and Yellow/Green) I know where they go, however the other 2 wires do not show up in the above linked to wiring diagram (orange/red, and yellow/white)?!?!?!

Can anyone help with this?!

I'm curious if these wires might be used for the passing light in some models that flashes the high beams when you go to pass someone?  Any body have some input?

Thanks,

Nick

The only difference between the wiring diagrams for an EL (Your model) and a k1-5 series is the fuse being moved from where the starter relay is.

the yellow white wire is for the high beam input on the light switch.

but what do you have on your handlebars?

start with the left:
horn?
hi-low beam switch?
pass light?
indicator switch?

Right side:
killswitch?
iginiton switch?
light switch on/off (uk mandatory?)?

once i know what you have wiring becomes a whole lot easier.

Left Hand Controls has:
High Beams
Horn
Turn Signal

Right Hand Controls has:
Killswitch
starter button

The orange/red wire, and the yellow/white wire I am talking about are coming off the circuit for the starter button which I would assume has something to do with a non-us spec piece.

Thanks,

Nick

Well no one can help?  Maybe a picture will help?

Here is the new control with 4 wires going to the starter switch:

Is there a way I can take a picture of my '04 for ya without ripping into my bike? I'm trying to help I'm just dumb when it comes to electronics! But, I do know '04s do not have a pass switch.

Looking on my '04 diagram it says orange/ white and orange/ brown goes to  engine stop switch . Yellow / green and Orange/ white goes to the  starter switch. Brown/Red. Brown Black Front brake light switch. Igniton switch is REd Orange Green Brown. Be advised that orange/white goes to both engine stop switch and starter switch :dunno_white:

I wish I knew how to past the pdf. photo here! I'm sorry If I made it clear like mud. I'm trying I really am!

You can email me your pdf if you think that will help: ncaldwe@utnet.utoledo.edu

Problem is, these controls are off an 08 f model and I can't find a wiring diagram specifically for the 08 or get someone to 100% tell me it is the same as the 04.  The other problem is that everyone (including myself) is only seeing 2 wires coming from the starter button (yellow/green, and orange/white) however in the picture you can see that I have 4 wires leaving said switch.

Unless you want to trace the wires from your right hand control and see if you have the 2 wires I can't locate on the 04 wiring diagram (orange/red, and yellow/white) to let me know where they lead?  I tried to PM the guy I bought the controls from but haven't heard back if he was able to trace the wiring for me.

Thanks,

Nick

so what...you have 2 extra wires
on the new part
hook up the proper color wires to your old harness and be done

as long as the function works
on/off/start
want Iain's money to support my butt in kens shop

Mary,

Thanks for the pdf, it ended up being the same wiring diagram I linked to above but I appreciate the help!

Werase643,

Sorry but without knowing what these wires are setup for, I'm not just going to hook it up without them.  Would you put together your bike and have 2 bolts leftover and feel comfortable with just putting it together?  Once I know what these wires were intended for then I can make the decision to leave it or alter it.  Thanks!

they are set up for something that is not on your bike

would i use it with extra wires....yes

would you .... i doubt it

as long as the proper electrical connections are made it's good

the new switch is probably a DPST

id check connections and clip excess wires

Yes, I'm assuming they are setup for something not on my bike, thatis what I'm trying to verify here and having no luck other than you telling me what you would do and not answering my questions.  If you can verify that with a proper wiring diagram showing these wires, I'd gladly accept your wisdom, but you know what they say when you assume your right. lolo

I agree if the wires are extra then no worries, I can clip them and be done.  But until I'm convinced they are in fact extra, or for non-us spec bikes then I'll keep trying to verify my own assumptions.

And I would gladly use it with extra wires, I just want to know 100%

Thanks,

Nick

Thanks,
