It was actually kinda fantastic.

I'm on the 5 south, beside Griffith park at 11pm last night.  Late night at work fixing some server issues - I'm sorta glad I took the cage to work yesterday.  Anyway,  I move from the number 2 lane to the number 1 lane and I see a bike with hb and lb on coming up from about a mile away, and coming up quick.  I hug the yellow line making plenty of filtering room, and as the bike is getting closer a blue hatchback, in one maneuver, goes from the number 3 lane into the number 1 lane, nearly cutting me off, not to mention the bike that's rushing up from behind me.

The bike passes me smoothly, then gets his front wheel about a foot from the back bumper of the blue car, hangs out there for ten seconds lighting the interior of the car like a nova, then pulls up, on the dotted line between the 1+2 lanes, with his hardbags even with the front pass. bumper of blue car, and swings his steel-wrapped hardbags into the bumper.  In my car, I'm yelling: "AWESOME".

I've never seen anything like that, and may never see it again.

Little of both.  The cop kinda hovered at the front bumper for a moment, then bumped the car's fender - much harder than I'd thought possible.  The cop didn't really need the room, but the car did cut him and myself off pretty badly.

Gotta say, whatever he was riding, whether it was a roadking, kz1500, or bimmer, it was WAY more stable at speed than my GS is, not to mention the dude rides for a living, so he's got buckets more talent/experience than I do.

Oh brother at first I thought you meant bike cop as in "Canondale" bike cop. I was like damn now that is some Balls. Don't know jack about Cali roads went to DisneyLand once thought it may have been the small road like here in Downtown Otown. Now that would be a definate "dude you rock" moment.

As for cops I had a nice conversation with one today  Thank you God for me picking my EOW memorial shirt of Deputy Michael Callin fine officer proud I got to work a few calls with him http://www.wesh.com/news/9632061/detail.html?subid=10100244 Too young and too senseless

I was riding a bit spirited first day back on flick and all. One didn't realize I had hit the 45 zone, two just had six shots in my shoulder(ow ow ow), getting sunburnt (hadn't ridden more than total of an hour), and a big storm cloud approching.

Okay okay I was speeding. When I saw the lights ( my first thoughts  were you idiot you really need a ticket on top of hospital bills) I made a safe lane change, pulled over to the road as far as I safely could. Immediately turned off ignition and placed hands on handle bars so he could see them. Kept them there until he said "You knew deputy Callin" I worked with him a few times when I was an EMT fine officer. Too young too soon. Then he said do you know how fast you were going I honestly answered 55 to the best of my knowledge sir. Actually, around 60! I'm sorry sir that was stupid and dangerous of me. Can I see your license and Registration. My wallet is in my back pocket and the registration is under the seat. Okay, get them. "What's that nifty thing on your throttle" " Ah the cramp buster for long rides helps with carpal tunnel" "That's a cool gadget" " uh, thanks" "going to run your license" "yes, sir" "stand there away from the side of the road" " I blurted Duh being an EMT for years you'd think I'd know that" "He busted out laughing" Sooo, I'm standing in the blazing Florida Sun why oh why can't the cloud looming on the horizon shade me now" Comes back he said "been quite a while since a speeding ticket". "yes, sir" "Well, I ride too and I know you wanna unwind some that's cool just be safe about it. But you know that coulda been a $261 ticket" He saw my tag with my little handicapped guy on it. "So, why the tag?" " Heart problem" "Guess that's why your not an EMT anymore" "yes, sir best job I ever had and I miss it" "I'm sorry about that have a good day and get safely out on the road. I thanked him for protecting my neighborhood and hopped on the bike. He guarded my Six until I got out a friendly wave and then the one block to my house"

Honestly, one of the nicest guys you'd ever meet. I understand that there are Pricks out there but most are just doing a very very thankless job. I believe if you answer the way I just did and not freak out or blow up on the guy they will treat you with respect!

I think my heart rate has finally slowed down.

bike cops in SoCal are BAMFs! I've been passed up by one on the freeway going 80 mph, and he was lane-splitting to boot. Was he after someone? Nope, thats just they way they roll. Those guys will blow traffic lights, speed, make un-safe manouvers, and kick your tail lights in if they feel like it.  :police:
