Ok, I'm just thinking here, and I don't know the specifics of the '08 GS.  But some motorcycles inhibit the headlight if the start button is pressed.  Those extra two wires may interrupt a headlight relay.

Can someone confirm that the '08 model headlight goes off when the start button is pressed?

And Slinger, do you have a multimeter?  Check continuity on the two extra wires.  If they are "on" when the button is released and "off" when it is pressed, then my theory is probably correct.  In fact, I would clip or cap them anyway -- if there is no connection to them, there is no problem.

Paulcet,

Those are my thoughts exactly, however I am trying to verify my theory.  I believe these two extra wires have something to do with the passing switch in non-us models but haven't been able to verify.  I know I could just clip and cover those wires and it would probably work just like the e model controls, but I'd feel much better if I was able to prove my thoughts.

Thanks,

Nick

Continuity check would verify whether it works as your theory suggests.

Unfortunately I do not have a multimeter, and being unemployed has limited my resources which is why I am relying on the knowledge here on the board and hoping someone has an 08 specific wiring diagram.

working on electrical stuff with out a meter or volt probe....

is like wrenching on a bike with a pair of vice grips

HF has a meter on sale most weeks for 3.99

heck you can make a volt probe with an old turn signal

Again thanks for the insightful reply that didn't answer my question. Really helpful! :-)

Yeah I'm starting to think I'm just going to have to go with our assumptions and testing since I can't verify it online.  If anyone can chime in maybe with a passing switch by tracking the wires I'd apprecaite it!

Thanks,

Nick
