To anyone thinking of buying parts from Thomas, I can highly recommend him.  I bought the tank, side plastics and front fender from him and all the parts were as he described them.  I was most impressed by how well he packaged them for shipping and the speed with which he shipped.  If you have any questions just give him a call and he will answer them.  A very nice guy to deal with!

I e-mailed you first thing this morning and agreed to what you asked for. I'll send you the refund when you reply to my e-mail with your name, address and so on. I'd also like to see a good response from you on this forum, since I have to reply to you here instead of you not replying to my  e-mail this morning. How about some positive feedback!

guzzidude1100i

I've been very honest with you about this deal with the engine. First I never rode the bike, second a bike with 20K miles a cam chain tensioner failure isn't that unusual. I'm at fault for not checking the compression and the timing chain & tensioner. The REASON was because when you inquired the bike was completely together, minus the header and I had taken the airbox off. I really had know way and the time to test these items, MY FAULT. I would like to see some receipts for the parts you have had to buy to justify a $100.00 refund on a $200.00 USED engine. You get where I'm coming from. All I want is you (the customer) to be happy and for me to not take a beating or refund money with no proof. Is it possible you can photocopy and attach or fax to 770-336-9990.

Thanks.

Tom,
I tried handling this with you in private via email and PM's but you felt the need to bring it to the forum, so here it is.  I bought a used engine from you for $200, PLUS $100 shipping.  You told me a mechanic set the timing and it should be fine.    Once I get the engine mounted, I find out that's not the case at all.  First of all, the timing wasn't set. Then I find out the signal generator was bad.  When I emailed you, you stated that the bike wasn't yours, and you had only seen it run, backfire, then TRY to start, but not turn over.  For some reason, you were compelled to keep this information from me until you had money in your pocket.    Then on May 29th, you said, "I think the electrical problem the bike had could have caused a problem with the generator" in response to me telling you that the signal generator was bad.  You said the bike was assembled incorrectly (ie/ the airbox and carbs weren't hooked up completely) and that was why it just backfired and didn't run.  Then later that day, you inform me that the bike was never yours, that you just bought it to part it out.  I expressed my frustration to you via PM's (to be adult and keep it off the forum) and tell you I'd appreciate $100 refund since I have to replace MANY parts (listed below) to get the engine in working order again.  At 2:30 today, you state "if you'll copy me back you're mailing address I'll honor you request for the $100.00 that should cover the parts, of course not the labor."  I reply that I appreciate that you're fixing your misrepresentation of the engine.  Then literally 1 minute later, I get another PM from you asking me to post positive feedback, to which I reply that I will once I get the refund.  THEN at 5:00 you change your mind once again and post information on this forum, instead of keeping it between PM's.  (See above message)

Here's a list of the following items that I have to buy to get the engine in working order (hopefully!).  The prices are from RonAyers
•   Exhaust cam -- $127-the cam was galled up that you can't even make out the #1 timing mark
•   Cam chain tensioner -- $40-The adjusting screw was snapped off completely
                     o   Gasket -- $2
•   Signal generator -- $130-completely inop, did not pass any of the service manual tests
•   Valve shims (which I know is maintenance and not due to the engine problems)
•   Head gasket -- $22-the head had to be removed due to one of the camshaft caps that had a bolt broken off in the head.  The entire head has to go to the machine shop to remove the broken bolt and heli-coil put it.

So just that alone totals to $371!!!  I took pictures of everything damaged that I'll gladly attach if need be.  You already admitted to me in a PM that you didn't test the engine and admitted fault.  I understand that I can probably find a lot of this stuff used but this isn't even counting the time and energy I'm putting into this engine not to mention having to post up a defense on the forum.  The entire reason I bought a different engine was so I wouldn't have to tear an entire engine apart to fix it.  I could have done that with the one that I have.  I appreciate you trying to make the customer happy and shipping quickly but can you honestly say that this engine didn't have some serious issues that you didn't bring to the table up front?  With the issues that I've found since tearing into it I'm amazed that it even started at all since it has ZERO compression whatsoever.  I understand that when you're parting out a bike you can't possibly know everything up front.  If you would have told me from the beginning "condition unknown-I have not tested compression or checked anything" it would have been Buyer Beware and I would have known ahead of time that any problems are my problem.  In one PM you tell me that the previous owner "started it up" then in another you tell me that it only "tried to start."  I guess I'm just a little confused about what you knew about the engine and what you didn't know about the engine.  At this point I'm just trying to mitigate my losses.

Everything is either ordered from my local dealership (Track and Trail in State College, PA)  who you can call to verify or I'm trying to procure the parts from other members of this forum.

Tom,  I've PM'd you and since you've left me in the dust and not replied, i'm forced to post on here to get your attention.  We tore the head apart and found that EVERY single valve was bent.  So now, in addition to every part i've already ordered, I now need to get all new valves and oil seals.  Valves alone will cost me at least $100.  I still need to get the head to the machine shop to get that taken care of.  So wtih the parts i've already ordered, the valves that need ordered, and hte head that needs machined, i'm well over $250 to fix an engine that you said was in working order, but just needed the "timing adjusted".  I feel it's only fair to be rightly compensated for the fact that I have to buy so many parts for this engine you sold me.  I understand it wasn't your bike, but you should have done the right thing and told me that before you sold it to me....not afterwards when I discovered how many problems there were with it.  My boyfriend has spent countless hours on this "project" engine!  I will more than gladly post up pictures of everything that is broken if you prefer.  The only solid positive thing about this engine is that it LOOKS like an engine!!!

Just buy a used working head sounds like you are throwing good money after bad. IMO. paying all that money at the machine shop is the costly way to get out of that.  I can't tell you how many $400 GS500e bike I have seen on Craigslist this year. Running. I suspect that is lots cheaper than the machine shop route.

Good luck.

If you'll E-MAIL ME you mailing address I'll send you the refund. Personally I'm sick and tired of dealing with this.

Listen carefully ... I told you that when I went to look at the bike the guy tried to start it up and it turned over and sounded like it tried to start (sounded like it was firing on one cylinder). He told me he was an "auto mechanic" meaning he's probably changes his oil and replaced some belts and hoses. When I told him not to turn it over any more the first thing I asked him was "WHAT WORK HAVE YOU DONE TO IT" he told me he re-timed it. That's why I told you it was most likely out of time and to check the valve adjustment. Logic tells me it might have jumped timing when the adjuster failed (I've had to replace several at about 30K, It's not uncommon). If you set the timing at that point the second cylinder is not in time, go figure. I admitted I didn't do a compression check and that is my fault (that's the only reason I'll refund the money) I didn't because you offered to buy the engine before I had done ANY work to the bike and I was covered up with work, OK MY FAULT. One last thing I'm selling a used ZX10 engine this weekend to a guy that knows the engine has a bad rod bearing and he is gladly paying $100.00 for a good rebuildable block and transmission. Send me the info and I'll honor the agreement, oh yea, thanks for the receipts and photos I've still not received.

I've PM'd you my info twice....I don't have your email.  If you want it sent to your EMAIL, then give me an email address.  Believe me, i'm just as tired of this as you are!!!  And I offered to send you pics...all you had to do was say the word

EDIT -- Again, i'm telling you that had I known the condition of the engine or even the fact tha tyou didn't get a chance to check it out, then it's Buyer Beware...intead I got, and I quote "A mechanic checked the engine over and said you might want to check or adjust the timing".  Paying $100 for a known damaged engine is one thing....paying $300 for a part that was in unknown condition and the seller held back that info is another thing.  I've had several transactions with other people on this board and have nothing but positive experiences with them, and i'm sure they can attest the same about me.  PM me or i fyou don't have my email, it's Steph7108@yahoo.com.  Send a copy to Fikste18@pct.edu so i'm sure to get your email this time, please and thank you.
